"Drive A Little, Save A Lot!"

When most people plan a trip to New Orleans, they want to stay 'in the heart of it all'. What they may not realize is the premium price associated with location. What's a budget conscious traveler to do? ENTER: the Clarion Avalon Hotel in New Orleans East. Only a 10 minute drive to the Vieux Carre (French Quarter), and located right off the interstate, this property is undergoing exciting new changes that will provide more value AND more comfort for your dollar. Rooms were remodeled in 2013, and public spaces are being expanded for breakfast options. There is a gated pool area, meeting space, and ample COMPLIMENTARY parking. This hotel is located on a service road, so there is not much in the way of atmosphere, however I could not detect any highway noise from the rooms. This is a good bargain for good night's sleep for most travelers.

"Disastrous Trip"

Below is a list of issues that we encountered during our stay: 1. The pool was out of service the entire time. When I asked the front desk at check-in they didn't know when it would be fixed. I asked a maintenance worker the following day and he said it would be out of service for at least a week. It needed to be drained and completely replastered. 2. Several personal items went missing from rooms. At first it was some student money and a wallet. We chalked it up to students misplacing items. The next day it happened again. This time it was a teacher's watch she had just purchased in Atlanta during the 6th grade trip. 3. Flies everywhere in several peoples rooms, as well as at least half a dozen constantly swarming during breakfast in the lobby. 4. My room specifically had an odd odor the entire stay. 5. In one of the teacher's room, there was no shower curtain the first night. 6.In another teacher's room, the light went out in the bathroom and wasn't replaced until the next day. 7. Speaking to the bus driver's room, he had to relocate because a strong odor of plaster was making him feel sick. 8. On the first night, two student rooms had a wet paint sign taped to the doorknob that was never removed for over a day. 9. There was water damage throughout the hotel. Many ceiling tiles in corners of hallways were missing and crown molding was rotting. 10. I spoke with the manager on the phone about reserving meeting room “A” for dinner Sunday night. However, when I arrived with the food for dinner the room had not been set up and our reservation was not in the computer. Thankfully they were able to set it up for our dinner, but the breaker broke during the set up causing the lights to be out. 11. There were at least three dead bugs on the first floor Sunday night. One of them was still squished on the tile the next morning. 12. Our group was spread out between three different floors (7th, 6th and 4th) and when we arrived they had not reserved rooms with the updated room list provided the morning before and we were four rooms short. 13. A/C broke in a student room causing these students to have to relocate halfway through out stay. Overall, will not be returning.
