I've stayed at a lot of hotels, motels and inns all over the world. A common thread to the quality of the experience is not necessarily the age of the facility, but rather the way any property is managed. Poor management shows in everything from check-in/out to the way the place looks, feels, smells, the quality of food and food service, and housekeeping. I can say this Inn was not well managed. My experience for two days was less than stellar. The check-in was terrible. The place was either understaffed or poorly staffed. The line waiting to check-in was long when I arrived and the check-in person was overwhelmed and poorly trained. She was slow stumbling through the files and keyboard as if things were disorganized. The phone kept ringing and she would abandon the people right in front of her to deal with the incoming calls. This is generally a big violation of protocols in the hospitality industry. All the while the second person, just round the corner of the office, would not help nor answer the phone. Needless to say people in line were not pleased. With the Clarion loyalty program, I had forgotten my stack of loyalty cards. The front desk person and later a manager promised to look up the number and add it to my folio and submit my stays for credit. Needless to say, they didn't. Operations were also not stellar. For instance, the maid did not know if a room was occupied or not, and walked when I was in the room. Maid service was not good in other ways items used in the room were not replaced. The breakfast bar kitchen was poor enough to drive one away from the 'free breakfast' to a McDonalds. The coffee was terrible, the juice simply colored water sans juice or flavor, and the selection of other items were terrible. I can say the rooms were clean enough and the beds comfortable but perhaps it is because the Inn is not terribly old.

This was a very nice hotel. Nothing fancy but very comfortable and well worth the value. The rooms were adequate and clean. I am very sensitive to smoke and when they give you a smoke-free room, it really was a smoke free room. Although we were cautious about an outside entrance, we were pleasantly surprised at how safe we felt. The parking lot was well lit. The staff was helpful and courteous. The breakfast was unbelievable for a hotel of this size and rate. A very good value for your money. I would gladly recommend it and stay there again without hesitation.

Property Description

The Clarion Inn & Suites Greenville is conveniently located in the Haywood Mall area with lots of fine restaurants and shopping. Only 4 miles from downtown Greenville you can enjoy convenience without paying downtown prices. Our newly renovated rooms and suites are equipped with premium bedding, 32 inch flat screen TVs, refrigerators and microwaves. All rates include deluxe hot breakfast buffet. We have a large outdoor pool, business and fitness centers on site. The entire hotel has complimentary wireless internet.
