Jefferson is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains and features stunning views, a rich history, and plenty of outdoor activities. One of the main attractions in Jefferson is the historic downtown district, which is filled with antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Be sure to check out the Museum of Ashe County History, which has exhibits on the history of the Native Americans who lived in the area, the early settlers, and the Civil War. There is also a large collection of historical artifacts on display. If you're looking for a nature escape, Jefferson is the perfect destination. The town is surrounded by Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. This park offers spectacular views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Hiking trails include the moderate 1.5 mile Hedge-Row Nature Trail and the more strenuous 4.5 mile Mount Jefferson Summit Trail. Jefferson, North Carolina is home to a rich history dating back to the early 1700s. Jefferson and West Jefferson are pleasant towns to visit. We were there to attend the Fiddler's Old Time and Bluegrass Convention in Ashe Park and it was definitely a pleasant experience. The western NC mountains and surrounding area is much like our experience of Appalachian mountains and folks. Overall, just good people. We lived for nearly 30 years in Morgantown, WV before moving to NC in our retirement. WV is similar to Jefferson, W Jefferson, Boone, etc.
