Very nice hotel - great value - just the right place to lay our heads when traveling for a wedding. We arrived earlier in the day and just left our bags. Later that night after a very nice wedding, we came in and just collapsed. Very nice - very comfortable and great price! « less

I really do dislike negative reviews, but I call 'em like I see 'em. Even though management left a message that I would get 1000 additional points for a 9 out of 10 rating given at Holiday Inn, I'll just have to pass on those points to be honest. To be as concise as possible...Pros: (1) Though hotel was full, it was quiet. (2) I liked the curved shower curtain that provides more room in the tub while showing. All hotels should have this (many do). (3) Plenty of towels. Cons: (1) Room had gnat infestation. I was swatting during my entire stay on one night. I brought coffee up from breakfast, set it on the counter and in 3 minutes had one floating in my coffee and two others crawing around inside. (2) Though I typically don't expect much from a free breakfast, the HI Express still managed to disappoint by keeping everyone there waiting for 20 minutes after opening before any hot food was ready (biscuits/gravy), then longer before the 'cook' told us that there were no eggs that morning (which is about the only hot thing there). I grabbed coffee and yogurt and went to the room before leaving to head to McDonald's for breakfast. (3) A rail in the elevator was broken and hanging from the wall by one support and the dryer in the washroom on my floor (there were signs on both warning/apologizing). (4) This place isn't really easy to get to being located a mile of so down a service road off of I-20 (not their fault, of course). (5) This brings me back to the beginning, it's too bad that a hotel can't just rest on its own merits and has to bribe guest for good reviews. I will not be back. « less

I have stayed at this location for several years and, like the other contributor, am also a platinum member. Unfortunately, the condition and detail to the hotel has slipped within the last 6 months. On my last stay one month ago, I noticed the large amount of dust in the rooms. Upon checkout, I told the front desk staff. This last stay was more frustrating. The normally comfortable pilllows were lumpy and items like the large room fridge had been replaced with a cube fridge, leaving a large hole. The microwave was moved from the cabinet and placed on the counter. The tub was rusted and the bath vent was dusty. The final straw was the broken pancake machine. I know that all this may sound picky. I can overlook some things, but when you are paying for an upgraded room, you expect a certain level or you look elsewhere. They have failed to meet it. In all fairness, I did speak with the manager at my last stay. He was cordial and told me that he moved there recently and that HIE will be doing an upgrade to the property. If this happens, I will be glad to try them again. Until then, I will be looking elsewhere. « less

They're trying to cover up everything at this property. First thing I smell when I walk into my first room is orange oil. I was pretty sure I knew what that would mean and sure enough, after 5 or 10 minutes you can tell it's a non-smoking room in name only. The clerk was very nice, I am a platinum member after all, so he let me have my choice of two other rooms to decide between, one of which however had the door ajar, which I didn't even try. So I took the other one, even though it smelled slightly musty. The water in the toilet was blue to cover up the fact that it was brown in the first room. It's actually brown in all the rooms you get this laminated memo to this effect and that the water meets all standards blah blah blah. I'll be using bottled water to make my coffee thank you very much. After a while in the second room it smelled slightly of smoke too, though it's probably been longer than in the first room, and maybe they did a better job eradicating it.One elevator is not enough for 4 floors, and the 1 is noisy. My new room is right across from the elevator, guess we'll see how that works out. I have never been given such a blatantly smoked in room for non-smoking since a Motel 6, in which case this property's rooms' rates need to be closer to that chain's than the outrageous $129 I paid. « less
