The manager (Ken or Kent) checked me in and was not at all friendly. He was strictly all business. Even though there was a display of Otis Spunkmeyer cookies he behaved as if taking one meant you were taking money from his paycheck.
The pool is a decent size and definitely heated. Enough to do short laps. The whirlpool is permanently closed. When I commented to (Ken or Kent) that it was being advertised online with a whirlpool he snapped that if I really wanted to know what amenities were offered I should call the hotel & book through the hotel rather than trusting an online company. That was when I realized his attitude was based on the fact that I booked through priceline and not directly through the hotel.
The room was alright. There was an odor but I always bring along a vanilla scented candle and within a couple of hours the smell was gone. Nothing fancy but it served its purpose. The beds weren't overly comfortable but housekeeping did an excellent job of giving plenty of towels and clean sheets. When leaving in the morning housekeepers Diane & (?Jamika) greeted me in the hallway & asked if I had everything I needed.
The hot breakfast was delicious! Terri the breakfast hostess is an asset to Fairfield Inn. Eggs both scrambled & boiled, meat, pastries & other breads, fresh fruit, breakfast to go bars, juice, and Waffles made it a well rounded meal. « less

The breakfast was unsatisfactory. The young woman at the desk at 6:00 A.M. was very nice but she was handling the desk and making breakfast. The owner must be a CPA.......Won't spend a nickel to do the right thing....hire a breakfast person!!!!!!!!! Buy some food for the breakfast!!!!!!!!!!

Good property that is close to St. Louis. Easy to get to. Price is good. I had to wait a few minutes to get somebody to check me in. I think I caught the employees on lunch break. There were two or three employees in the restaurant area across the lobby. Room was clean and fully stocked with amenities. Did not get a chance to try the breakfast. « less

We were on a road trip and stopped here for the night. As Marriott fans, we know what to expect at their various levels of properties. Fairfield Inns are by no means the Ritz, but they shouldn't be dumps, either. Unfortunately we were not impressed by the Collinsville property. Having asked for a top-floor room, we were not given that, fine. Moving into our 3rd floor room, it stank of cigarette smoke and an overall unclean, skanky odor. Plus there was loud noise going on in the room directly above us. Marriott is to be commended for going 100% smoke-free in their properties; that's a large part of the reason we stay with them. I understand that rude people will break the rules. But I do expect the problem to be fixed, and compensated for. When calling down to front desk, the clerk was happy to move us to the 4th floor, which was what I had requested in the first place. I went to get the new key, and a person who appeared to be a manager, was at the desk. I complained politely about the smoky room, complimenting Marriott on their smoke-free policy, etc. I'm not demanding or rude, but I did want the manager to know we were displeased. Instead of giving a darn, and apologizing (I've worked in customer service; "the customer's always right"), he proceeded to lecture me in a condescending way, about the fact that Marriotts were much better back before they instituted the smoke-free policy, because you could "put all the smokers" in one place and thus keep the non-smokers separate. (Untrue from personal experience, and not a good CYA story whatsoever from him.) He told me flat-out that I can never expect a smoke-free room, because people will arrive at the front desk, $250 in hand, and slap it down on the desk, informing him (the manager) that they fully intend to smoke in their non-smoking room, here's the $250 cleaning fee in advance, so deal with it. I doubt that Marriott execs would be too happy to hear a manager telling customers this! At any rate, we moved to our new room, which was okay except for an old, decrepit a/c unit that rattled all night. This Fairfield Inn isn't up to Marriott's usual standards; it needs an upgrade and borders on sleazy. The fact that we had to deal with a dirty, smelly room, as well as a condescending manager who cared little about our comfort, made for an unpleasant experience. Avoid. « less

I have stayed at this hotel twice now and I keep being disappointed, it one things when you have a hotel that is old but it’s another when they do not want to do little things like add paint and caulk to area's that really need it. I understand that doing a complete renovation is costly but at the very least put some paint up. Oh and then pillows were terrible hard to sleep on.
Management response from KAndrewsIL, General Manager
Thank you for you comments regarding our hotel. We are excited to announce that we are planning a full renovation in the 4th quarter of this year. We look forward to your next stay at our property.
