Arrived at the Moderne Hotel on May 7/13 by Ship from Southampton. The Hotel was in a great location and easy to find! We arrived and greeted very warmly by the front-desk and was advised that we would have room available for 3:00 - Received a phone call our room was ready.
The Room was just like everyone stated Small but very elegant. The nicest thing was how clean the room was. You could not find dirt if you tried to find it.
Spent 3 nights and had amazing service from the Front Desk, Housekeeping and the Bell Man. Yes this is a smaller hotel so some amenities aren't there, however you are in NYC !!
I guess the only complaint we had was the overhead light was a little on the dim side and while packing and getting ready to leave would have been nice if the room was a tad brighter.
Thank you again Moderne for making our Honeymoon extra special with all the little surprises you pulled!

Spent 5 nights in a king room. The rooms are the size you expect in NYC and we were very impressed by their funky contemporary feel and VERY comfortable bedding (great after a long day out in the city) although I would agree with the reference to "paper thin" walls in some reviews.
The hotel also has lounge on the second floor offering complimentary hot beverages, fresh fruit (and cake in the morning). The (free) WiFi is great and the location is brilliant, only a short distance from Time Square, Central Park and great shopping!
You don't come to New York to stay in you room but the Moderne certainly was a nice place to be when it was time to call it a night! « less

If you are looking for a hotel that is quiet (for NY standards), intimate, affordable, and near Times Square, this is your place. My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights. We were upgraded to a suite, which probably makes me slightly partial.
The staff were wonderful throughout our stay. My only complaint was that there was only one elevator for the 8 floors of the hotel. We never had to wait because there was too many people riding, but on occasion, the housekeeping staff had to run to the basement and it slowed the elevator traffic.
The bed was comfortable, bathroom was functional, and the amenities were workable. I would stay here again without hesitation. This place does not have a lot of bells and whistles that you might get elsewhere, but if you don't need those things, this will work well. « less

The bellman was thoughtful enough to ask if I'd like the wifi access code while I waited in the lounge for my room to be readied (I had arrived much earlier than the usual check-in time.) The front desk staff found an item that I had left behind and mailed it back to me. Just two highlights of a friendly staff. The room was quiet and dark - slept very well, especially in NYC. The location is extremely convenient with easy subway access to all parts of Manhattan and other boroughs. « less
