It was reasonably clean, and staff I had were great, but it looked like a shortage. Room was a bit dated, tiles looked old and were cracked, these should be replaced (eg bathroom). Iron did not seem to work, no matter what I did. Insufficient power points for charging all those gadgets, eg phones and tablets, cameras etc.
I believe 4 star is if they have a lift o wheelchair accessible. In my country this is not 4 star but 3. I stayed a few nights may 2013. I was early, they did put me in early as I just got off a plane from AUstralia after 20 odd hours, a tram ride and then carting luggage. I was exhausted. « less

The room and breakfast were both fine, the only way this hotel was let down was the staff shortages.
It took a while to book out, also waiting for service at the bar was another gripe, the beer tasted a little bitter as if the pipes were just cleaned and could've done with another flush through.
I put this all down to lack of staff however it was the graveyard shift when we got there so I can't be overly critical and breakfast was spot on. The morning meal was also improved by a window side seat looking out over the quay.
All in all a middle of the road hotel that could be knock out with some small changes i.e. free tea making facilities in each room. « less

Had a two night stay at this hotel coinciding with a match at Manchester United. Really don't know how it gets a four star rating as it is very dated and in need of a complete refurbishement. Our bedroom even had one of the old cathode ray tube televisions!! Service was ok - no complaints there, and the hotel is in a nice position, but there are definitely much nicer hotels than this in the area, e.g. the Ramada. « less

I stayed for 2 nights in May 2013. The hotel is in serious need of somebody to manage it. It is clearly understaffed and they lack any customer service skills. We waited , 45 minutes for a drink in the restaurant and 2 hours for a main course on the first night. The following morning we tried to order breakfast in our room , however , we were told that they were too busy and that we would be better to come downstairs and queue for a table for breakfast. The bedding, was worn and the rooms need refurbishing. « less

I stayed in the Copthorne hotel, to coincide with a Man Utd match. Given the price, I wasn't looking for, nor expecting perfection, but I was pretty horrified by how poor this hotel was, both quality and service.
I do understand that times are hard for hotels, so they need to invest carefully in their premises, but the Copthorne was rammed full of football fans and no doubt it's the same every single home game. So it's seeing a lot of visitors and because of this really should invest in refurbishing the place.
Out first attempt at check in was terrible - there was a queue a mile long and by the time we were seen (20 mins or so), we were told there were no rooms ready, so we'd have to wait. It was too early to go to the stadium and there is nothing really around the hotel. They did take our bags in.
We went to find a seat in the bar, but that was full and there is JUST ONE seat in the lobby - so we went to the restaurant only to be told (very gruffly) that it was in fact not open. Pointing out that all we wanted was a seat, didn't garner a more favourable response.
So we checked in after the match and again were greeted by a long queue. Eventually we got our room key (412) and bags and went to the room. The corridors in the hotel are dark and have a really low roof, adding to the feeling of claustrophobia - thankfully the room was a lot brighter, but not at all better.
The carpets were thread bare with holes!!! The furniture was ancient and dirty. The shower had caked in dirt on the shower knob. The whole place was just ancient and screamed out for renovation and cleaning.
The view was good (waterside) and in fairness the bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. But that's about the extent of the positives. WiFi was available in the room for £5 and was OK - sluggish at times. Breakfast was "fine"
It's clear that this hotel caters to guests that it doesn't give a toss about - all they want is the money and for you to leave. Even given it's proximity to the stadium, I would never stay there again.
