We were in town visiting some friends just a few blocks away and basically just needed a convenient place to crash for the night. We didn't check in until 9 at night and basically went right to bed after a long day of traveling. The room was a pleasant surprise though, as it was huge, clean and very well decorated! I was even able to get a quick workout in before we left in the morning - the exercise room was right down the hall and very small, but it served the purpose just fine. « less

if you are after a cheap stay in Los Angeles you cant really go wrong with this place. its no 5 star hotel but it will do if your out and about on most of your trip and need a decent place to sleep. the service was nice and friendly. however they managed to double charge the room which was fixed promptly once notified. « less

We stayed for one weekend night. Check-in and check-out were fairly easy, but (although polite) the front desk was unorganized. No one said anything about the "happy hour" or two free drinks mentioned in other posts. Parking rate is reasonable at $15/night. There was no valet. Guest are expected to park tandem in their parking area, and the hotel staff keeps your car keys at the front desk and moves your car (not sure who exactly) when necessary. I wasn't particularly comfortable with this but complied. The hallways to our room were dark and musty and reeked of pot. The room itself was spacious, furnishings and fixtures okay, and the bed very comfortable. Our interior facing room had no balcony and a view of an air vent. There was a coffee pot, microwave, and refrigerator (a converted wine fridge?). The bathroom was large, but since our room was a disabled-accessible room I'm not sure if the size and layout is typical of most bathrooms there. We got a good deal with our credit card points. I would stay here again for a good price, but I would never pay the almost $200 going rate for this hotel. « less

My boyfriend and I stayed at the BLVD hotel & Spa for 4 nights this January. We chose the hotel primarily based on the location which is just a short walk from the Metro station and Universal Studios (take the free tram ride up to Universal Studios once you enter the main Universal City gates). We live in London and are used to being in the city but as other people have commented the area around the hotel doesn't feel 100% safe, especially at night. Saying that, most parts of LA that we encountered felt like this. There are a lot of homeless people in the city. We stayed in a King room on the street side of the hotel. The traffic noise was pretty bad but we were so jetlagged that it didn't really bother us. There is a heater/aircon unit in the room that was really loud. We turned this off straightaway but it might be a problem if you were visiting in the summer. The room could really have done with a thorough clean, I found hairs in the bed and a hairgrip on the floor. Shower was fine with good pressure, nice flat screen tv. The staff at the front desk were polite and helpful.
The biggest negatives of the hotel for us were: 1 Strong smell of pot throughout our stay. We were on the 2nd floor and it absolutely stunk! We did mention this to the front desk but they didn't seem surprised; 2 The lack of an in-room safe. If you are visiting from another country and have passport, digital devices, money etc. with you it is a massive inconvenience not to have a safe in the room. The staff did tell us that we could use the safe at reception but I just didn't feel comfortable leaving valuables there; 3 No tea-making facilities. I think this is common throughout US hotels but I would have really liked a kettle and mugs etc.
Overall this is an ok 3 star hotel and we enjoyed our stay in LA. It is difficult to find reasonably priced hotels in LA and the BLVD hotel was the right choice for us purely based on location. « less

The hotel itself was comfortable and clean. And the staff was very accommodating. Nightly free 2 drink happy hour. No restaurant, but they did have continental type breakfast items, sandwiches and snacks. It turned out you really didn't need a hotel restaurant with some awesome local restaurants within walking distance. I also liked the close proximity to the subway that took us directly to the center of the city of Hollywood. I wasn't crazy about the location. Ventura Boulevard looks a little sketchy. I didn't feel comfortable walking around by myself. My room was also on the streetside which made it a little noisy. Across the street from the hotel is the entrance to the 101 Freeway. « less
