This is a newer hotel (actually part of a residence/hotel combo) that sports nicely decorated rooms in the heart of midtown Manhattan. I stayed here about 3 weeks after Superstorm Sandy and I'm not sure if that was the reason why the staff seemed less than friendly or if was just the way they were.
Upon arrival, I didn't get a warm or friendly greeting and actually felt more like the guy behind the desk (Henry?) was an intern from school who couldn't be bothered to do more than take my credit card and give me a room key. He didn't tell me anything about the hotel and barely pointed out where the elevators were so I was left to figure things out myself (not difficult since the terrace wasn't open then and there were no restaurant or exercise facilities there to my knowledge). Still, given the positioning of this hotel as "luxury boutique", I did expect more for my initial interaction.
I paid extra for a larger room and it was worth it as the room was still tight with the 1 bed. Not super small like you may find at other comparable hotels (like the W) but still not as "large" as expected. The room was quieter than most you'll find in Manhattan----given the new construction that's to be expected----but I could still hear some sounds from the street below despite being high up. The hotel is next to/near the Sofitel but lacks a lobby or other facilities (room service/dining etc) so if you want that go next door. The TV wasn't working correctly when I visited as some of the local channels were inaccessible --- again, not a huge problem since I didn't come there to watch tv but it would've been nice to watch the football games while relaxing or getting ready to go out.
All in all, this hotel has a few kinks to work out in both its service and amenities before I would consider calling it a luxury hotel but given the low price I paid (under $150/night) it was a great deal----anything more than that and I would reconsider staying there as there are plenty of other places located in this area that are better or just as good for the price. « less

I stay at the Cassa when travelling on Business as my office is directly opposite. Its also a great location if you are visit NY for leisure. Its located in Midtown with lots of bars and restaurants and only 5-10min walk from Time Sq. The hotel altho a new build has a 'loft space' fell to it, lots for trendy concrete with modern furniture. Best of all the hotel bedrooms are a very good size for New York where space is at premium and often even the most expensive of hotels have tiny rooms. There is a desk area too in the room which is great if you need to work. The beds are huge and so so comfy......and pillows are the best! « less

Overall a great experience at a good value.
A friend from NYC told us about this place. We booked because it was in a great location near all of the sightseeing we wanted to do and is reasonably priced.
Our rooom was comparable to upper end chain hotels except it had a nice large walk-in shower (no tub) with a waterfall feature shower head and wand shower head.
The front desk and concierge were excellent and we used them quite a lot for restaurant recommendations and they were spot on every time. Service with a smile!
We had a decent view out of the 25th floor. Complementary fresh brewed fruit infused iced tea in the lobby. Room has terry cloth robes, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, minibar (no fridge), safe, and HDTV. It also had an alarm clock with iPod docking station, which I had some trouble figuring out. Make sure it is not displaying "A" if you don't want the alarm to wake you up.

Thank you for the SOLID review. I am sorry about the alarm clock as a standard we are supposed to double check that before you arrive. I will make sure that housekeeping is on top of that going forward. We just rolled out the hibiscus tea drink this week. We cannot keep the decanter filled! SO popular i just make start charging for it... kidding.
Thank you and come stay with us again. Regards, Troy Pade General Manager

This hotel was choosen because his location : it was a very good choice ! Therefore, we meet a very friendly staff, the room was perfect - although a small place for linen storage. No problem to sleep where as our room was located on the seventh floor, sided on the 45th street. The breakfast... not so expensive ! We recommend Cassa Hotel ! « less
