Lieber Mads,

My colleague & I stayed here for 2 nights in April for AIX. The check in staff were friendly yet professional & knowledgeable.
Our rooms were excellent, very spacious with comfy beds, easy chair & ottoman, table & chair & larger than average bathrooms, with useful complimentary toiletries & robes. As the weather was so mild it was lovely to be able to open the French windows with juliette balcony to be able to enjoy fresh air. Being from the UK we did miss the in room tea tray but a minor matter over all.
We ate in the bar one evening & the burgers were great & service excellent. Another evening we came back from an event & enjoyed the comfortable sofas for late evening drinks, again with good service, & the live music was good but not over powering.
The breakfasts were excellent, plenty of choice, & fresh breads delicious. We were able to relax & enjoy the breakfasts as there were plenty of tables.
The art work was beautiful & aviary unusual. Furnishings throughout the hotel were beautiful & plenty of areas to sit. The little steps leading to reception for children to be able to help themselves to a few sweets was a cute touch.
We both had spa treatments which were very good & although we didn't have time to enjoy the pool, but it looked very inviting. Wifi available at no additional cost both in room & public areas.
There were cabs always available outside the hotel which was useful. After we'd checked out we were able to leave our luggage in safe store until we collected it later in the day. Cab to the airport was approx. 20mins. « less

We stayed for one night on March 23, 2013. Rate was 190,-- Euro for two and a baby, breakfast and taxes included - one of the highest rates this weekend compared to all other (even 5 star) hotels in Hamburg. We stayed at "Grand" Elysee as we joined a birthday party at this hotel.
Arrival was unspectecular, no help with the luggage at the door or after getting the room keys at reception (reception didn't even ask if they could help with the luggage transfer). Of course no guidance to room 3932. The room itself was fine, clean and the requested baby cot was built up. There was a chair at the writing desk and a separate arm chair, no sofa or anything else. The bathroom was spacious but a bathtub was missing, there was a shower stall, only.
The banquet was acceptable but: the reception took place on the first floor of the banquetting area between elevators and a buffet of another group, one felt like beeing in a station concourse (and the banquet room "Oval Office" was on a higher floor so one had to leave this corridor area anyway). The staff also was not really trained as one always had to ask for new drinks or they served as the believed from the right or the left side and so on.
Most annoying was that room 3932 was above the ballroom where a big party still was going on when we returned to our room at about 1.30am. The only one sleeping was our baby, my wife and I couldn't sleep at all. So I complained at about 3am at reception that they shall stop the music (at that time they played "summer of 69" from Bryan Adams - you could here every single song in our room). The receptionist told us the music probably will stop at 4am and asked if we would like to change the room. But changing the room for one hour more sleep wasn't really an opportunity, especially with awaking the baby.
Next morning I complained at front office. The front office manager simply said "sorry", that was all. Next day I got the information from another guest of the birthday party that they also complained and got 70 Euro back when checking out (they were on the same floor)!!!
Dear Eugen Block: I attest that your hotel is not well managed at all. We had a memorable bad stay, paid quite a lot money for having no sleep until 4am and definitely will not return to "Grand" Elysee. « less

Dear guest, thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. We are very sorry to hear that our hotel and our staff did not meet your expectations. You mentioned that your room only had a shower and no bathtub. We do have rooms with a bathtub an we are always happy to note the guests preference. The well-being of our guests is our highest priority and we always do our best to make every stay as pleasant as it can be. Especially our friendly staff is often highlighted by our guests. We would be happy if you could get back to us in order to clear up the matter.
Best regards,

Reception staff and Concierge are what you expect from a 4-5 star hotel. Rooms are spacious, larger than similar priced rooms in London or Paris. There are a few decent German restaurants within a block. Within a mile (just past the train station) you will find a shopping district, lake and more restaurants. Breakfast Buffet is top notch, good service, both American and European influences…complete with fresh squeezed OJ. Only negative is that there are no irons in the room…for the business traveler this is terrible. They do have an “Ironing Room” on the third floor, but during a conference you have to what in a queue. « less
