My husband and I came in for four nights, crossing our fingers that we would get an ok room for the price (under $200 per night). In spite of the construction going on and the wait for the elevator, we had a wonderful stay. The room was small but had everything we needed, including a great view. We did not wait for check in, but I think we came in around 3:00 in the afternoon which was not the busiest time. Check out was painless and they kept our bags for us until we left later in the day. The staff was friendly, the room was clean - we could not ask for more and would stay here again for sure! « less

The worst hotel experience I have ever had in NYC. Run from this place! Had all the same problems with elevators, noisy, no lobby, rude burnt-out employees, no bar no restaurant. Very misleading regarding the construction.
I bought it off a Groupon for $300 per night. Huge rip off. Had a giant roach on my towel, had to call security on people yelling in hall way. Now I have a $100 charge on my cc which has no basis. Was told when I checked out all that was on there is 3 days of internet at $14 ea. « less

Needless to say, the conditions you found were unacceptable and not in any way indicative of all the rooms in our hotel and I can assure you that all rooms are treated on a regular rotation by a pest control company as a part of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program with special attention given if an outbreak is reported to us.
To protect hotels from financial damages, it is a customary hotel practice throughout the industry for the front desk agent to obtain an authorization from the credit card company that the credit limit of the bank card presented is adequate to cover the cost of the guest's stay. In addition to the contracted room and tax charges, authorization is also requested for an additional $50 per day to cover the cost of any "incidental" charges the guest may incur, such as internet fees or phone calls. These amounts are not "charged" at the time, rather the credit limit or funds are placed on a "hold", reducing the credit line or available funds until the actual charges are posted upon check-out. Some banks may continue to hold the credit amount or funds authorization for up to a week after check-out; however this is up to the individual bank's policy and not a hotel policy that we have any control over. These "holds" should drop within a few days and your credit balance will reflect the $100 increase.
It is never our intent to disappoint our guests and we deeply regret having disappointed you. We hope you will return and give us an opportunity to redeem ourselves when you are next in New York City as we look forward to recapturing your confidence in us.

I checked in yesterday. Tonight I came back at 9.30 and the bed was unmade. I called housekeeping asking why, with the whole day at their disposal, nobody had taken care of my room. The lady (well, "lady" does not seem the most suitable word for her attitude, but anyway) told me «You want your room cleaned?», which seemed a rethorical question in more than one way (yes, of course I DID want my room cleaned; no, of course I do not want to be bothered when I come back at night.) She then told me the person in charge left a note saying she could not clean my room since there was stuff on the bed and they're not allowed to move customers' stuff. I looked at the bed; on it were: 3 magazines, one brochure from last night's theatre, the t-shirt I sleep in. I asked the lady (again: whatever) to please come over so I could show her the magazines that kept them from cleaning my room. I asked five times, since the first four she said there was no reason for her to bother to come over (she did not say «bother», but the tone of her voice was quite unmistakable. I then asked to speak to a manager and, to my amazement, she told: «Actually I'm the housekeeping manager.») When she arrived (Charlene, if I got her name right) she repeated that she did not realized what I wanted, since I refused to have my room cleaned now (at 9.30 PM); that I was being very rude (wanting my room in a hotel: gosh, where are my manners?); that they're not allowed to move stuff. I asked her if she was seriously stating that three magazines kept them from doing their job, since this kind of «the dog ate my homework» had never happened to me in a whole life spent in hotels. She replied saying that the maid told there was a laptop on the bed as well. I think she made this detail up right in the moment: the laptop was on the shelf beside the bed, where I had left it in the morning and where she could clearly see it while talking to me. I really don't think some maid left some note saying a laptop was on the bed: making up wrong informations is more time consuming than making up a bed. Finally, she argued that the only thing the maid had not done was making up the bed. When she left, I checked the trash bins: neither the one in the room nor the one in the bathroom had been emptied. How somebody with such a poor attitude and so magnificently not talented to deal with rightly unsatisfied customers could get to management level is beyond my understanding. I'm still here for three more nights, and I look forward to the thrill: will my room be cleaned tomorrow? Will they find other lame excuses? « less

We're sorry you were disappointed with your stay. We are in the late stages of our lobby renovation which includes work on our elevators as well, necessitating taking one at a time out of service. While we realize our temporary lobby is much smaller than our regular lobby, we do try our best to make our guests as comfortable as possible and sincerely regret if we failed to do so with you.
While there are no restaurants or shops currently in the hotel, a permanent bar serving light fare and beverages for breakfast, dinner and cocktails will be incorporated into our new Lobby design along with a newsstand and sundries store. We sincerely regret if any of these circumstances caused any inconvenience or disappointment but I do respectfully point out that we do not advertise any of these services and apologize if you were in any way misinformed by a booking engine not controlled by our Hotel.
We do hope that you will return when our renovation is completed in late 2013.
