This property is nestled in a cliffside overlooking Pacific. The Villa building arrangement of the resort is romantic and secluded, perfect for a get away Romantic weekend. The buildings like Number 10 nearest the ocean and just off the pool is the way to go. Room was nice but not lavish and a bit dated. Staff was, however, a high point. We were on our "engagement" weekend, and were upgraded to a beautiful room right off the beach thanks to Keith at Front Desk. Concierge and valet staff very helpful also. A bit far from downtown Santa Barbara, but just staying "on property" for a day is very tranquil. Some flies in the ointment: Spa. Front desk was ill-trained and lost our reservation altogether. Facility looks like a 5 star but at least on our day their was poorly run. Miro restaurent (only true restaurent on property) was closed during our stay while a TV was being filmed. Pool was also being refinished just off Spa leading to fumes so strong Spa had to shut its windows. But the beauty of the location and the amenities in general were enough to make this a very nice stay overall. I was impressed by how the hotel handled a lost/stolen personal item. Professionally and respectfully. just what you would hope from a class act hotel. « less

Thank you for your review. I was so pleased to read that you enjoyed our ocean front setting and more importantly that our Staff was a high point for you for such a special trip. I apologize that you were inconvenienced by our Spa pool renovations, Miró closure and Spa service during your stay. I have sent you a private note to resolve the matter directly with you. We hope to welcome you back to Bacara again soon.
Kindly,

To Kathleen Cochran: My fiance and I recently stayed at your resort on 5/11. We were very excited to experience the resort but were bitterly disappointed. We booked through American Express travel for one night, garden view. When we arrived, we interrupted the Valet captain berating a valet for something he had done wrong, and then snapped, "GET THE DOOR!" referring to our car. Hmm. Not a good start. When we checked in we had no problems but had trouble finding our room- it's a little tricky. Room was really disappointing. I know we booked the lowest category room , but it was still $460. The room was small, dark, not impressive, but worst of all,the garden view really meant that the room faced a patch of grass beyond the guest and golf cart path. In the first 5 minutes, 20 people and carts passed by. Hard to relax with that. We called the front desk and they were very nice in asking exactly what we were disappointed with- we told them the dark , dreary and not quiet/private room. So, they moved us immediately- thank you. Now this is where it gets interesting. They moved us to a slightly better room at no charge- very much appreciated. BUT, it turns out that the room was directly next to the spa entrance and the spa cafe. We tried to get a nap in but it was so busy, we couldn't. Oh well, moving on. We tried to dine at the resort restaurant Miro, but did not have reservations and they were 'fully accommodated'. So we spent $219 on 4 appetizers and many drinks at the bar for our one dinner there. Upon returning to our room, we discovered that there were dozens of prom goers hanging out near our room - we had not realized that just beyond the cafe was the function rooms. I find it amusing and very poor customer service that the room they moved us to was possibly the loudest at the resort. At 10:30 pm I called the front desk to ask how much longer and let them know how disappointed we were in the fact that we could not even sit on our balcony due to the noise. There was nothing they could do as we were not in the mood to move again. At 12:20am, we called again because the noise was still going and we could not sleep. The night manager offered to move us again- um, no. He offered to extend our checkout and $150 resort credit, but really all we wanted to do was go home and forget this experience. He said he would gladly refund our $$ but since we had booked it on "Orbitz" (really? IT was AMEX), his hands were tied, and we would have to take the issue up with them.I wish he would not have been untruthful about this- we found out from AMEX later that he could have done so easily. I do not recommend this resort. Bitterly disappointed. I hope Kathleen Cochran does not post another, "Sorry you didn't have good experience, but most guests do" type of response like I have read on other poor reviews. « less

We just returned from a 2 night stay at the Bacara Resort and Spa. I have stayed at this hotel twice before a few years ago, and this time was very disappointed! Let me say that the hotel has had 2 recent changes of ownership over the last 3 years since I was there, and the hotel and customer service is really gone down hill! We stayed in a partial ocean view room, where our room overlooked the pool and the ocean in the distance. The view itself was nice, but slightly noisy due to kids in the pool below us. The furniture in our room was worn out, and certainly not what you expect at a top resort of this kind. We had massages in the spa which were average, but nothing special. The locker room was a mess with towels on the floor, and the hampers overflowing. The spa desk was also short staffed. When we checked in for our service, they told us to wait inside the locker room and someone would be there to assist us. No one was in the locker room to show us around. Then a man stocking the towels walked over, and just handed us 2 locker keys. Even though I had been there before, my guests should have been escorted through the locker area and shown it's facilities. My bottom line is when paying top resort prices, the rooms and customer service should be top notch! Next time I will go back to the Four Seasons Biltmore! « less

The resort is laid out in villas. This lends an air of privacy to your stay, but do not expect to just pop on over to the front desk or the lobby. You'll need to walk or call the shuttle. Next time we will bring snacks so that we can enjoy the balcony in the morning with our coffee. (Each room has a Keurig!) that said, the feeling in the lobby and the bar area is amazing. It's set up with great little gathering areas, some with fireplaces! We sat in the bar area and enjoyed the scene. There were lots of people milling about and enjoying themselves, all making it a very cool vibe. « less

We went for a weekend and everything was wonderful. Our room was outstanding! It was a one bedroom suite overlooking the ocean. The bed was really comfy. The bathroom was really big and it included a BIG tub. The other room was a sitting room with a TV, bar area and another bathroom. We also had a patio that wrapped around both rooms.
The grounds were beautiful and perfect for morning walks on the beach. The restaurant was good. Everyone on the property were super nice and very helpful. « less

"This is a wonderful service when you're planning such a huge event. It really puts the mind at ease!! I just want to say Thank You!! One more thing that I can knock off my never ending list of things to do!! " S.T. - Reno, NV
"This has to be the easiest reservation I have ever encountered, as far as a group reservation anyway. When I made group reservations for my other daughter's wedding in Houston a few years ago, it was a nightmare! Wish I would have known about you then." Carolyn H. - Boston, MA
