I chose this Holiday Inn Express because it was near the medical center, where my work meeting was scheduled. There doesn't seem to be much else in the area. The welcome was warm, the desk staff helpful, and the room was as expected. The carpet is a bit worn but the bed was comfy and the room was quiet. I was surprised to find that the phone next to the bed was not plugged in, and although I could attach the cord to the phone, I don't know where the other end was to attach to the outlet - so that phone was out of commission (the one on the desk was ok). Overall, the price seemed a bit high for a hotel of this caliber and location.
My room was designed so that the desk was directly in front of the air conditioner blower. I hate that arrangement in hotel rooms, because I can either work in a cold draft or I have to turn off the air and then the whole room gets hot. Not sure why hotel designers can't figure this out.
A "shuttle" parked outside had no affiliation with the hotel and I was a bit skeptical about using it, but wanted to go to a restaurant nearby and it was raining. Turned out to be a very nice option as taxis were few and far between at that location. I generally don't like hotels permitting these independent entrepreneurs hanging around and offering services to their guests because you never know how legitimate they are.
The breakfast included egg/cheese "patties" folded over that could be put into biscuits with bacon, instant oatmeal, coffee, juice, etc. Pretty good. The popcorn in the lobby in the evening was a nice touch. « less

This is my second stay at this hotel in two years and I will definitely be coming back! Great location convenient to downtown and easy to find right off the highway. The staff has always been very pleasant and happy to help no matter how small/large an issue a guest my have.
Last year, I overheard a front desk person making several calls to area hotels for vacancies when a potential guest showed up without reservations at the hotel was full and the person was from out of town. This year, I accidentally left my door slightly ajar when I left and was immediately notified when I returned in case there had been a problem. Oops!! Thanks!!!!
Bathrooms are really small but since I didn't spend too much time at the hotel it wasn't a problem.
At check in, we were given a little welcome bag with water and some cookies. How sweet! There is a popcorn machine by the front desk with fresh popcorn. Free b'fast is carb heavy but I'm not a breakfast person.

It is a long way from Downtown, however try Overton Square in Midtown, very lively bars too. Beale st is worth a visit but we also enjoyed midtown area and Main st Memphis. « less

This hotel is not within walking distance to Beale Street as the hotels.com rep indicated to me (unless you want to hoof it 2 miles). Our room was run down, dirty and had leftover hair in the shower....
Luckily hotels.com and the friendly staff let us out of our 2nd night stay due to this grossness and we were able to book a night at the Double Tree close to Beale Street for only $30 more a night - and the difference in cleanliness and location was worth all $30!!! « less

I had read the reviews and was reluctant but I've stayed at many HIE's and they are consistently satisfying. It was for one night while we visited Graceland. We were greeted with a warm welcome accompanied with a big smile. The entire staff was extremely friendly. We walked into a odor-free room, everything neat and clean......I am a germophobic! I don't know about others but when I travel I want a clean bed and bathroom that are odor-free, everything else is secondary. HIE never fails me. « less
