My friends and I were forced to stay the night in Alexandria due to very poor winter weather. We rolled in early in the morning and needed a room for 6 hours. I don't remember the name of the guy at the desk, but he couldn't have been nicer. His demeanor and sincerity made the whole experience better. Thank you! « less

For the price, it was excellent. Things like small bathroom facilities is expected for the price. I rated it excellent because of the cleanliness, the service/friendliness, and the beds.

We were forced into this hotel after the interstate closed during a blizzard this past winter. It was New Years Eve and quite literally this was the only place in Alexandria that had a vacancy - and now we know why. Check in was terrible - mind you, the clerk probably wasn't expecting dozens of people that late at night. She wasn't properly trained and kept calling her manager to walk her through the process. We required a pet friendly room (bonus that they offer those!) but that means you're in the very back of the hotel in some grubby, smelly, chilly area. The room was clean but very, very worn and shabby. Bedding was faded and had burn marks in the bedspread, carpet was stained and also had burn marks, the heater gave off a constant burning smell. Windows were drafty, doors/walls very thin, fridge sounded like a freight train and the bathroom was honestly about the size of an airplane bathroom with a dingy little shower/bath in the corner (which was yellowing in peeling). Towels were threadbare and pillows were comparable to rocks. Perhaps the worst part of the stay was the manager who worked days - VERY unprofessional, stand offish and just downright rude. She should be in another line of work! Obviously the hotel was bursting at the seams with people (no vacancy) and she seemed short tempered and easily irritated by the children who were going to the pool area. Our run in with her was over our dog. As we walked out the front door (with him on a short leash and him not making any noise whatsoever) she snapped at us as we walked by "EXCUSE ME. But people have allergies and you should not have animals in the front lobby." Given that I was pregnant, sleep deprived and beyond irritated that we were stuck at this hole in the wall, I was all too happy to point out to her that both housekeeping and the maintenance man informed us (and a few other people with animals) as we went to leave from the backdoor to please use the front entrance as there was a major ice overhang directly above the backdoor and they were in the process of removing it and needed all guests to stay away. Her response? She rolled her eyes and started sniffling. She also snapped at the gentleman behind us (also on his way out the front door with his small dog as he had been instructed to do by the staff working at the back) but he wasn't as polite as I was. In all fairness to the hotel, they were obviously unprepared for the onslaught of unexpected storm guests and most of the staff were trying their best to keep up with demand. But the day manager and one of the girls on afternoons (who spent most of her shift arguing with someone on her cell phone) were highly unprofessional and unhelpful. I would not stay there again - I would prefer to sleep in my car! « less
