As we had stayed here before and really liked our experience, we booked two nights when we passed Portland on our recent road trip. Rooms are still big and colorful, but the noise one hears from the hallways shows that the rooms do not have any good insulation. Also when one would turn on the fan in the bathroom it sounded like a plane would take off. Last time we stayed at this hotel we really enjoyed the customer service and everybody we encountered from making the reservation to check in were very friendly, not so this time. People were very off hand on the phone as well as when we checked in and barely made eye contact. The biggest reason why we are rating our experience this time only "average" is that they charged us extra for staying on the third floor. We travel frequently and have never been charged extra for staying at a certain floor. As my husband has issues with noises coming from above I had requested a room on the upper level and got charged extra for that. Will have to reconsider if we stay here again on our next trip to Portland. « less

Don’t be put off by the outside: first impression would be of an airport hotel, modern, rectangular and dull and with long corridors. Nothing but nothing could be further from the truth (though the corridors are long). There is color and convenience galore. Everything is provided including the kitchen sink, refrigerator, cooker, 2 TVs, plates, knives, forks..... Suite (I think all the rooms are suites) has full kitchen area, lounge area with sofa, work area with desk, and a large comfy bed, and then a well-appointed bathroom. Not far from a colorful and picturesque area to wander through and shop and dine on 21st and 23rd. A definite devotion to green causes is evident at the Inn, but they still provide a dishwasher. Very adequate continental breakfast from 6.30 am. The heating/ cooling and the wifi work. There is a balcony for the morning sunshine and the cool evening air. A fair distance from the city center but the streetcar stop is right outside. Not noisy though. Tip: a street side room is fine- no noise and good sun. « less

Although not my first trip to Portland, this was my first chance to try the Inn at Northrup Station and I was very pleased with it. The decor is quirky and fun, the room was very comfortable with a nice sofa, chair, desk and a very comfortable bed. I was in a King Suite that had a huge TV over the desk in the living area and a smaller TV of the dresser by the bed. The kitchen area was complete enough to cook and eat a decent meal if you're so incined. The cooktop is built into a nice counter with 4 tall stools. All in all, a very good layout with plenty of space for moving around.
The location is perfect. It's close to the streetcar line and to the shops and restaurants of the Alphabet District. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the free breakfast was a nice addition. And the Keurig coffeemaker was a nice touch. There's parking onsite although I suppose if the hotel were full it might be tricky to find a spot.
I would definitely recommend you give this one a try. « less

Free parking, right in front of public transportation, lit up torches outside, stove, microwave, huge rooms, refrigerator, great free breakfast, dishwasher, great staff, incredible bed. Incredible BED...did I say the bed/mattress here is incredible. That's all you need to know other than the pricing was great as well. You'll see, search around, you'll book the Inn at Northrup. Note about Portland: not many taxis, but when you call them? They come right where you are: stick this in your smart phone: 208-391-7779, the cabs have roses on them. of course. « less

Thank you kindly for your review! So glad you loved our custom made mattress! Believe it or not, it was from our guests' feedback that helped us narrow down our search for the perfect mattress. After months and months of testing various brands, makes & models (and comments from guests' surveys), we decided to work with a local company, Oregon Mattress Company, to create our very own custom made Inn @ Northrup mattress! Thanks again for sharing your positive experience with other TripAdvisor members and we look forward to having you back soon!
