I arrived at this hotel relatively late at night and noticed people dealing drugs in the parking lot. Walking to the room alone in the dark was uncomfortable too, as there were people loitering around the parking lot, stairwells, and corridors.
The inside of the room was very standard, pretty clean, and quite spacious. The air conditioner worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was not bad. The hotel staff was also friendly. Also the internet service was quite good.
I probably wouldn't stay here again just because the other clientele made me uncomfortable. « less

When I return to the San Diego area, I will look up this hotel first. A very good value.
I was nervous about staying near El Cajon, so I checked out the hotels 4 miles away in Santee. I felt safe at all hours at this hotel. I appreciated that the parking is tucked back away from the road a little.
The room was large for the price (65.99+tax through hotels.com). I had a comfortable king size bed, refrigerator/microwave, toilet/shower separate from the sink, full-length mirror, and a larger closet than I'm used to. I would gladly pay $100 for a room like this. A clean hotel in all aspects.
About 70 channels through Cox Cable on a flat screen TV, unfortunately it is a standard def feed for the cable.
Quaint outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool.
Breakfast was included and much better than most hotels in the $70 range. Included a waffle maker and CORN DOGS! I asked the desk clerk if they were sausage wrapped in pancake, but no! It was actually a corn dog!
Laundry facilities are good, one washer and dryer ($1.25 wash, $1.50 dry) and I was able to wash a big load.
A ten minute drive from Wal-Mart, which is part of a nice, large mall that includes an IMAX theater.
Soda and ice cream machines ($1.75 - $3) are a nice touch.
Only two issues with this hotel - the parking is a bit tight, and the booking process bothered me a little. I came in early Wednesday morning to book a king room for Wednesday and Thursday night. The desk clerk (I assume he is the manager or owner) told me they only had rooms with 2 queens available and offered the AAA rate of $69.99 and that they only had three king rooms and none were available (king rooms are the least expensive here). I explained that I did not need to check in until the evening, but he only offered the room with two queens. I had just seen the king room advertised for $55 and available on the hotel's own website. I went to my car and reserved a king room through hotels.com to lock in my price at $65.99, in case the manager decided to charge me for the "upgrade" if I booked the king room through their website.
All of the staff was very friendly, including the manager.
Overall a great hotel even for $69.99 - and they have CORN DOGS FOR BREAKFAST! « less

We were pleasantly surprised by this older lodge. It's conveniently located in Santee, close to the grandkids we were visiting, and the clean, well maintained units are tucked away from traffic noise, giving a sense that life can be pleasant and orderly even in a busy area. Breakfast was OK, not great, but given the fair prices they charge, we had no complaints. « less

For the price, it is a fine place to stay on a business trip. I found the folks at the front desk to be friendly, hospitable and efficient. The rooms are not the most stylish but are clean, have working amenities and functional. « less
