"Hotel Planner got money but didn't make the reservation" When I arrived at the Red Roof Inn in Akron (the night of October 24, 2013) they did not have a reservation for me. I showed them my printout of the reservation. They were very polite and called the nearest Red Roof Inn to see if it had gone there in error but they had no record of it either. Next we called the national Red Roof Inn support number and they also had no record but could tell from the information I provided them that the reservation was made on the Hotel Planner website and not Red Roof's. They gave me Hotel Planner's phone number, which I promptly called--now it's around 9:00 - 9:30 pm. After going through a couple of prompts I got the message: "all of our representatives are busy assisting other callers, please leave your message and a phone number and we'll call you back as soon as possible" ---(that's not a verbatim quote but the essence of the recorded message). We hadn't had dinner so we went to a restaurant next to the hotel and had dinner thinking that our call would be returned while we ate and then we could get this snafu straightened out. NO CALLBACK EVER CAME!! The Red Roof Inn registration person was very helpful and got us the best rate possible and was everything you would want a person in that capacity to be (bless her!) so we paid for the room (again) and were able to spend the night. We were enroute to the East Coast and today, November 26, 2013 at around 5:00 pm, is the first opportunity that I’ve had to put this in writing. WE STILL HAVE NOT HAD A CALL FROM HOTEL PLANNER. At this time I don't know if Hotel Planner is a scam website or not but there is a charge on my credit card for them so my next email will be to my credit card company to get a credit for service I never received.
In the future I will be much more careful to only use websites of actual hotel chains to avoid such an incident.
