We stayed at this Winchester, VA Candlewood Suites on two separate occasions in March of 2013. We had our dog with us. We liked this hotel. No problems with check in. The rooms were very large and clean with high ceilings. The bedding was better than average, the bathroom was huge. The towels are large and thick. The kitchen was well equipped with all the appliances, dishes, pots and pans we needed. The coffee maker was good. The cable TV had no listings channel, but the TV, while a bit dated worked fine. And we had a decent nights sleep.
While they are very dog friendly one BIG drawback was that there was really no adequate area to walk your dog. The hotel has set aside a tiny grassy spot in the back of the building behind a huge dumpster, and a narrow grass strip in which to walk your dog. Sad to say these areas are filthy, the fault of both the hotel and the dog owners.
Because this hotel has full kitchens and comfortable rooms, trades people stay there during the workweek, and I believe there are a few full time residents. We thought it was quieter when we were there on the weekend.
Other than the unfortunate dog area and a noisy weekday morning, we thought this Candlewood was a solid value for people passing through or even spending a few days. We have no problem giving this hotel a good recommendation. « less

This is your typical Candlewood suite. Place was clean, check in was fast and price was reasonable. It's located real close to I-81 so it is an easy place to stop at if traveling by. Rooms come with a kitchen. There is a small store in the hotel where you can buy breakfast cereal to have in your room. « less

I stop here every time I travel N/S along I-81, with my dogs. The facilty is clean, has a gym and a laundry, is very pet friendly, with an extremely reasonable pet fee ($12 for two or fewer dogs). There are also some local restaurants that will deliver, so I need not leave to eat dinner. I just wish they also had a real breakfast, like some other hotels. They do not have a pool, though that is not important to me. I typically stay only overnight, but do that at least 4 times a year. I have been staying here for years, and it is just now starting to show some signs of wear & tear. « less

Per our brand standards, we do not offer breakfast and there is no pool on-site. I stayed here this past weekend, and must admit I was impressed beyond my expectations. Upon arrival, they had no issue finding my reservation, and the clerk presented the key, internet password and a coupon for the small food cafe. He correctly did not speak my room number out loud - this is a personal security issue, and it's proper for the clerk to not speak your room number. This was the first pleasant surprise, and more followed.
When I had a problem with my room key, he re-programmed it, then went with me to the room to make sure it worked with no further issue. Pleasant surprise number 2, check.
The room was clean and well-organized, and the supplied kitchenette stocked with dishware, flatware, pots and pans, and even some glass containers with lids. Very complete, I thought. Pleasant surprise number 3, check.
The only 'limitation,' and it's really only one if you're not the kind of customer Candlewood focuses on, is the lack of a restaurant or provided breakfast. Instead, they provide the kitchenette and a small grocery of selections for purchase and preparation in your room. While perhaps not the right fit for a business traveler, for family or personal travel, this works nicely.
While my visit was brief, I would not hesitate to stay here again. A real bargain, and they even have pet-friendly rooms! « less
