I had stayed at another hotel down the street for a few years. I thought I would try the Hampton this year. There is not much to it, with a small communal area by the front desk. There are also 2 sofas at the base of the elevators, but the area is very busy and not a place to relax. The room was clean but the hallway smelled badly. Maybe years of smoke, mold, or mildew. They are renovating and replacing the carpet. My room was big and had free WIFI, with a comfortable bed. There is a small exercise area but really not much else. No restaurant, gift shop, anywhere to buy a few things if needed. No room service. My room key had to be reprogrammed after 1 night. And then my wife and I still had trouble getting in. I was told to lift the door handle up as some locks were programmed backwards. The doormen were nice, helping us flag taxi's. But when asked directions or recommendations they didn't have a clue. « less

Lovely hotel one block away from the French Quarter. It's on the streetcar line with easy access to Bourbon Street, Harrah's and all of the fun New Orleans has to offer. Attached to the hotel is a small mall with some shopping and a wonderful food court. The staff are all wonderful and helpful and the room was comfortable and clean. « less

The Hampton Inn Downtown was perfect for walking to many places of interest, both in the French Quarter and towards the arts district. The accommodations are excellent and roomy and include a satisfying breakfast. Though the food does not meet the New Orleans food standard, it is reliable, and the coffee is quite good. I have no complaints! « less

After staying in a number of good quality Hampton Inns, we were disappointed with our stay at this downtown Hampton Inn. The big plus is that the hotel is located a few blocks from the French Quarters and is on the St. Charles streetcar line. The minus is that the hotel is under renovation - something we did not know when we booked our room. Our floor had not been renovated and looked and smelled like a worn out hotel and the bed was very lumpy. Perhaps the hotel will be better when renovation is complete. We were at the hotel during Jazz Fest which means that it was difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel in downtown New Orleans. We did enjoy our stay in New Orleans, but probably will not stay at this Hampton Inn again. « less

As you noted, the hotel is under renovation. We are changing out everything in the guest room with the exception of the TV, Microfridge and safe. We are also redoing all of the corridors.
