This hotel is in the heart of Chinatown, close to the Verizon Center, and easy walking distance to the metro. The breakfast was outstanding with many choices to please all three of us. The hotel was very quiet, especially for a Friday night. We attended a Caps playoof game at the Veriaon Center and walked. We left our vehicle inthe valet parking the next day and took the metro to the National Zoo. The only drawback is the parking, which is limited. We were lucky, but ohters who took their cars out during the day, found no parking available when they returned int he afternoon. « less

I travel extensively for business. Thus, it is important to me to have a clean, quiet environment in which to make sure my business activities are supported. And, a quiet place is a must in order to adjust to different time zones. This morning, at 5.15 am local time (2.15 am back home on the West Coast), I was awakened by someone filling up an ice bucket from the ice machine on our floor. Is it necessary to have an ice machine right outside people's rooms? Why does someone need that much ice at 5.15 in the morning?
The lobby noise is amazing. Due to inadequate staffing, there is a constant queue at the front desk. If you want to grab an item from the "marketplace", say, a bottle of water, you have to get in line behind several people checking in, just to pay for your water.
Forget about doing work at the business center--it is basically a PC set out underneath a loud television set. The TV set noise competes with the lobby music noise and the noise of the milling crowd in the lobby. If you want to work at the business center--bring headphones.
The towels in this hotel are reminiscent of my 7th grade gym class.

This hotel is located in Chinatown, very close to the Verizon Center, Smithsonian Museum of American Art, The National Portrait Gallery, and a host of restaurants. It is just a quick walk from Gallery Place Metro (be sure to exit at the Chinatown exit to get closest to destination) and from there you can easily get to Reagan National Airport and Amtrak's Union Station. A short cab ride is recommended if you want to get to the Mall and the other Smithsonian museums. So for convenience, it is hard to beat and it is an excellent value. The staff (everyone from concierge to housekeeping) was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and had everything one needs (except for a makeup/shaving mirror, which a hotel must have in order to receive my highest praise!) There is a friendly neighborhood-feeling Irish pub on the lobby level and they serve hearty bar fare. Be careful of tourist-trap restaurants in the area, of which there are far too many. The hotel included breakfast which was typcial, and included hot selections. All in all, this was an excellent choice. « less

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn on May 12 to May 13, 2013. We were attending a concert at the Verizon Center, right down the street. When we arrived at around 1:00 PM, they had a room available even though check-in isn't until 3:00. Because I'm an avid trip advisor reader, I knew to ask for a room with a view of the church instead of the alley. That was noted on my reservation and the front desk attendant gave us a room with a church view.
The room was nice, with comfortable beds and everything one would need.
The free breakfast was, according to my travel companions, delicous. The concierge was incredibly helpful, as were all of the employees, with recommendations of dining in Chinatown and helping us with our valet ticket when we misplaced it.
This will definitely be my go-to hotel for future stays in DC. « less

This hotel is convenient (within walking distance) of many of the places one might want to visit in DC as well as being right in the heart of Chinatown. A few blocks from the Metro. Lots of great restaurants (not just of the Asian variety). The staff were friendly and helpful: concierge service was particularly good. Our room was spotlessly clean and nicely appointed. Some nice touches such excellent 24 hour coffee service and a full breakfast made this a relaxing place to stay during our 4 day mini vacation. « less
