Return trip to the Pensione - it's in a great location, not far from Central Station (making it super easy to get to from the airport) and close to great dining options like Thai Town, China Town and the like. Plenty of pubs nearby too. My friend and I traveled up for a half marathon and were left a note welcoming us and wishing us well, along with a complimentary bottle of Powerade. We both loved that touch. Comfy bedding. Rooms are a good size for the price, amenities are better than others that charge the same - good tv, fridge, nice toiletries. Oh, and they offer a free pass to a nearby Fitness First which is good if you want to fit in some exercise. We skipped that offer! « less

Right on George St, with Chinatown at its back, this is a super little inner city hotel, small but pretty well formed. Cool rooms , excellent guest lounge and great service for what is a fairly cheap hotel. Excellent value for money. Just stayed for a second time, and it was perfect for my two night stay. « less

If 8 Hotels isn't Australia's coolest small hotel group, I'm dying to see who is!? Pensione Sydney is almost as good as Pensione Melbourne (except, clearly it's in Sydney)
I must first state, I like little hotel rooms, I don't want any excuse to hang around a hotel room while on holiday. Having said that, I love stylish, well thought out rooms, they must have: peace and quiet, ambient lighting, a good bed and a well maintained (clean) history.
This in mind, 8Hotels' Sydney Pensione ticks all my boxes + it's at the none-tourist end of George Street.
The designer (she's just as gorgeous as the rooms) has put a bunch of thought into the rooms, I have to admit to wanting to paint my own walls that wonderfilled charcoal blue!
Pensione Sydney isn't for everyone, the rooms are SMALL, perfectly formed, but small. The staff are brilliant, very courteous.
If your not into small rooms (don't book the Petite) The King rooms are generous, still not large, but if like me the hotel room isn't what your visiting for, Pensione Sydney is perfect. « less

Close to restaurants.. Public transport..walk to Sydney sites..
I much prefer to stay in small hotels like the pensione hotel than the larger hotels...
