For the most part the hotel and the service was brilliant. The staff were friendly and very helpful through out our stay. We were very happy with the experience and my wife was so impressed with the surprise nights stay i arranged for her. I wanted to get her out the house a little for a well deserved break before our little one is born next month. The only two points i wanted to let you guys know about is that when we took a shower, the seals on the glass doors were not very good and had to do quite a bit of mopping up to dry the floor after and the other little thing was the late night milk delivery... The lady delivering the milk and cupcakes knocked so soft we couldn't make out if it was our door or not and after a few seconds unlocked and came into the room. But these are just little things and didn't hamper our stay. My wife was still surprised and really loved the gesture.. Mission accomplished. Thanks for the memories Harbour House « less

The hotel is situated directly opposite the ocean with the potential of viewing whales directly from your bedroom. The place is well appointed, however I have stayed in 5 star hotels that are somewhat more beautifully appointed. I highly recommend the hotel for it's locality, within walking distance of a good selection of restaurants and excellent coffee shops. « less

I really hate it when I book a 5 star place expecting 5 star all the way and then the reality turns out to be a good 3 star or at a push 4star. This is exactly how Harbour House was for us.
It certainly gets 5 stars for the location, view and the rooms BUT as far as service goes it was really NOT up to 5 star standard. No manager to be seen all weekend.
Management was clearly missing and reception staff completely not interested or helpful. The bins in our room were not cleared out for the entire duration of our stay! Amenities were not replenished even after we asked for it to be done.
The rooms however are beautifully decorated, very nice and spacious but is starting to show signs of a bit of wear and tear. We did find the beds VERY hard and uncomfortable.
Breakfast was good, nothing special but fine and was included in the rate.
It is right across the road from the best restaurant in Hermanus - Burgundy's - so that made up for a lot of things.
I would not rate this as a child friendly venue, we had our 8yr old son with us and it was clear that he wasn't really welcomed by all the other guests.
Also worth nothing that this is a Pet Friendly hotel and for a NON pet lover like me, it was a nightmare. I REALLY do not want to spend my (expensive) weekend in the company of other people's dogs!!
I think there are other nicer places in Hermanus. « less

My husband and I are spending the weekend at Harbour House - We have not even spent our first night here yet and I am already amazed by the ' little surprises'. Just before leaving for dinner at about 7pm there was a knock at the door - they came to deliver cupcakes and bottled water. When we arrived back from dinner there was a bottle of champagne on ice as well as a delicious piece of cake. I can't wait to see what other surprises await us tomorrow. So peaceful here. « less
