This hotel is in an ideal situation on Sth Michigan Ave if visiting for a couple of days. Most tourist sites are within walking distance. The Lobby was in the process of refurbishment when we were there but they compensated us with discounts in the restaurant.I thought this was a nice touch ,both being prewarned and compensated .As it was the disruption was minimal. Staff during our visit were excellent and seemed to be striving to compensate for the mentioned upheaval. The staff at reception were extremely pleasant and very helpful. The rooms were spacious and kept very clean. Restaurant was excellent, however although access is via the hotel lobby, the restaurant is not part of the hotel. If visiting Chicago again I would certainly stay here. « less

Had to pay extra night because of early check inn, then they gave me the wrong room, (double beds), the tile in the 1st room in bathroom was missing at the tub, 2nd room was nice. looks like this hotel needs an update. lots of burned out lights all over hotel. looks like they cut down on the maintenance staff.also stains on the carpet, all in all great place for the price on grant park. « less

Went on a ladies 3 day Mother's Day get-away May 10-13. We stayed at Chicago's Essex Inn on South Michigan Ave. I have to say the woman who arranged this trip did her homework, we were in a great location. We arrived at 9 am Friday, the hotel stored our bags for us at no extra charge. The Hotel staff pointed us to the perfect breakfast restaurant 3 blocks away. We were mere steps from the trolley pick up and drop off stop. We were in a smoking room on floor 3, but the room was very clean and the windows opened to let fresh air in. No problems asking for extra towels, they arrived 5 minutes after I asked. Everyone was so helpful and smiled. I would stay here again if I ever go back to Chicago! « less

Stayed here in 2010 and thought hotel seemed worn out, tatty and past it's prime. On arriving yesterday found it much improved. Lobby recently refurbished and my room was great with side views to both the Lake and Willis(Sears) Tower as well as spotlessly clean. Wifi is now free and I found it reliable and fast enough to stream BBC iPlayer for radio from UK. Well done! « less

The location of this hotel partnered with the great price of the rooms made it perfect for our weekend stay. We were able to walk down Michigan Ave and many of the great attractions like the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium are just across the road! The rooms were clean - we had a great view over the lake - and the staff was super helpful. Perfect for the downtown weekend getaway! « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"I thought it was a wonderful experience and a great way to find good hotels at great prices." Y.C. - Atlanta, GA
"Everything went excellent. I'm really glad I decided to go with both your company and Sierra Suites for accommodations for my wedding. People are now wishing there were more Sierra Suites around. They were even kind enough to offer the discounted rate to those people that weren't sure they'd make to the wedding until after the cutoff date. I have already referred someone to your service for a wedding she's planning in Michigan." R.S. - Parsippany, NY
