My daughter, granddaughter, and I stayed last weekend, and it worked well for us. Yes, there was construction and the pool was not available (it was raining and wet enough anyway) but it was a comfortable and clean place to stay, and located close to a MARTA stop. We were in a one bedroom suite that was roomy enough for our 2 year old to run around freely, and having a kitchen was great, too. The breakfast buffet was really more like a brunch, with enough to tempt anyone, and excellent coffee. I repeat, excellent coffee! Staff was friendly and pleasant, and even though we stayed on the weekend and there was no regular housekeeping service, we had no problems. « less

This hotel was very comfortable and very accomodating. The area was very upscale and plenty of things to do nearby. The staff was very friendly and the morning breakfast was great. Although they are in the process of doing upgrades, there was no inconvience for the guests. The rooms are very large and cozy. Having your own entrance was even more convienent. I would definatly recommend the hotel and will stay there again if in the area. The price was also very reasonable. « less

There are better options when it comes to places to stay.. avoid this one! We booked through Groupon, where it was never mentioned that there was construction taking place. When we booked, we were told we would be placed in 2031, but would have to park down further in the parking lot to avoid the construction zone. First informed it was work on the patio that was being done, we lugged our suitcases into the room at about five in the afternoon to discover hammering and sawing about ten feet above our head. We were placed in the third (top) floor room directly under where they were doing roofing work.
As it was a Thursday evening, we figured they would be wrapping up soon and tried to be patient with it. At 6:30, we had to get out of the room due to a headache and frustration so we left for dinner. Returning at 7:30, the roofers were still working. We went to the main desk and asked how much longer the workers would be roofing, and were told they didn't know but were attempting to contact their main contact at the construction company to attempt to find out. We were then told that they were going to be returning at 8:00 the next morning and working all day that Friday above us once again.
We asked then for a room change, and this was not met with the greatest of enthusiasm. I understand that rooms are booked ahead of time, but when you have rooms that are intolerable due to external circumstances, don't book them!! We were then placed in room 731, so we lugged out suitcases back down the stairs and across to building 7, then lugged them back up the three flights to our new room. Once we get in there, the room is very warm. Checking the air conditioner, we saw it was set all the way down, but was blowing lukewarm. My wife then called the main desk to report the air conditioner in our second room wasn't working. Their question: Do you want us to send the engineer over? Her response: I want a room where people aren't hammering over our heads and that is less than 85 degrees. After being asked again if we wanted the engineer sent over, she replied yes and hung up.
I will say that the engineer was fantastic. Sonesta BETTER appreciate the employee they have in him, since we were fuming before he showed up, and not just because of the hot room temperature. He came in and checked the thermostat and A/C unit before determining that the compressor was shot. Setting an example that the entire hotel should follow, he then set us up with room 713 on the first floor, took all of our luggage down for us to save us a third trip, and made sure that everything in the room was comfortable. He even finished it off with a free Coke for me and a water for my wife, as well as two clementines. It was VERY welcome.
The rest of the stay was quiet, and I do believe that the renovations and re-equipping of the rooms will make stays for future guests better, but the tainting of our first day experience really colored our entire stay, and not for the better. Sonesta needs to do a better job at anticipating problems, tracking what their contractors are doing and when, and reacting to problems in a pro-active manner rather than waiting for suggestions on how to make it better. Use caution if you are booking here in the future. Make sure no one will be hammering over your head and that if there are problems, they will actually react to them! Also, it wouldn't hurt to make sure the renovations are done and the rooms are all fully upgraded. « less

Dear Wesgrogan, I would like to thank you for writing a review regarding your stay with us. I would love to speak with you personally regarding your stay and a possible future stay with us. Please feel free to contact me directly via email tgriggs@sonesta.com so I may reach out to you privately. Let me apologize for the insensitive choice of room location for your stay. I have since coached and trained our agents regarding being sensitive as to where we are assigning guest while construction is going on. We need to anticipate what our guest needs and wants are when assigning rooms. The construction team does have a work parameter of times they are to be working; 8am -6pm. I do apologize for the night in question and that was addressed immediately that evening with the construction team. The engineer you speak of, Mr. Omar… he is fantastic, thank you for your kind words. Going above and beyond is Omar’s specialty and we thrive on this with all our team mates. I apologize you didn’t experience this with all team members you were in contact with. I am glad to hear that the rest of your stay was quieter and sorry that the beginning of your stay has left you with a sour taste of what we and Sonesta ES is all about. This was not our intention. I completely understand all your issues you encountered while in our hotel as this is all unacceptable when it comes to customer service. I appreciate your honesty and thank you for your survey. I would love for you to give us another chance and let us show you that we can do it the right, from beginning to end.
Sincerely Tammy Griggs-Worley General Manager Sonesta ES Atlanta tgriggs@sonesta.com

First off let me say that we were more than happy with our stay. Is it the Ritz? No. But nowhere does it claim to be. It was clean, the beds were very comfortable, the staff was very friendly & accommodating. The free breakfast was basic, but tasty & hot. Yes, there are no elevators, which if you even bothered to look at their website, is very obvious. And yes, as it states on the website, it is a seasonal pool. However, they did show their plans to have it updated to a year round outdoor pool sometime next year. We were expecting much less for such a great price and were pleasantly surprised. If people would just take a little time & actually read the room descriptions on the website, I'm sure a lot of the negative reviews on here wouldn't be. Everything is explained exactly as it is. But then some people will always find something to complain about. So please don't be afraid to book with this place, if we ever go back to Atlanta, this is where we will stay. Great Job! « less

Dear Bomba 1978 We would like to thank you first of all for staying with us and taking the time out of your busy schedule to write a review on the hotel, staff and your stay. We appreciate your honesty in your review. Correct we are an exterior hotel with no elevator and are doing some upgrading of our hotel. Thank you for noticing. We are so excited for our guest to see our new look when we are completed. As far as our swimming pool, for now it is seasonal and by 2014 we plan to be an all season pool. We just improved the patio and in the process of installing an Outdoor Living area, which will add a special touch to our courtyard. We want to thank you again for choosing Sonesta ES Atlanta for your destination hotel and we look forward to your next visit and are sure you will love the improvements. Sincerely Tammy Griggs-Worley General Manager and the Entire Sonesta ES family

WOW. Where do I start?, Dispite having nearly 10hrs flight from Uk to Atlanta, drive all the way to here, we came to realise that the room that I booked from 'Hotel.com' was only a room and a pull out bed for 3 of us. Instead, I actually rang and asked for a 2 roomed apartment. I could have booked it online but I rang instead just to make sure. Hotel.com comfirmed I will get 2 rooms. Then another dilema - the swiming pool was and is still under renovation! Now, I can cry like this... Shantell (front desk) been really patience with us, we don't mind to pay to upgrade but all rooms sold out apart from one night only - what's the point? She then come in our room with Lee to make the pull out bed for my son. We were too tired so, we just had the early night in. The next day, we just get to know the hotel well. Breakfast's buffet very good considered the price of the hotel. I never make my own waffles before, and I really enjoy fresh waffles in 2mins. It's really like it, it's just like cooking mama! In 2 minutes you get fresh waffles! Hot Porridge (oat), meat, eggs, warm muffins, fruits and a lot more! Even the kitchen staffs are nice! The only thing I don't like about breakfast were all the plastic cutlery and plates. Most of the time they do have china but sometimes they just have plastic through out! Not very green, but that's USA for you. Mon, Tue and Wed the hotel will have a little light meal from 5:30 to 7pm. Bonus! Rooms Ok, nice to have a little kitchen be nicer they provide a little kettle, bathroom's ok too. The only things are that the bed's a bit soft and sinked in a bit.
Now, I'm still staying in this hotel dispite so many disapointments! First, I have a lot of paperwork that's need scaning, faxing and internet access! Everyone at the front desk really helping - nothing too troublesome. From finding the Outlet address and coupons (Lanora) up to faxing (Stacey and Brigette). Vanessa's good too. But most of all, Tammy - she's really made an effort to help me with my documents. It's like I've got a little office team here! A strong one! Wow! That's something I'd never experience in any hotel at this standard. Even some 5star hotel didn't offer the same services! Their services didn't just end there, no, they have shuttle buses that will take you everywhere local, like the bank, (dificult to find bureau de change, easier change your dollars in Uk or just use plastic - bank and airport rip you off big time), shopping and restaurants - free from morning 7:30am to 10pm apart from Saturday. - Driver's day off! Fair enough... As for the swiming pool, we realise that the state actually not allow the outdoor pool open to the public yet (Lee the driver said). To us, it's really warm here 21'C but to them still not warm enough! So, even if they have the pool, it's still closed! One more thing that I really want to see things improve on is the carpet! Its not at a clean standard. Over all I will still come back to this hotel - just for the services and waffles! Even there's construction work going on - we hardly hear any noise as well as other neighbouring suites! Nice and quite. Thanks Sonesta for your warm hospitality see you soon! Just Make sure 2 rooms next time! « less

Dear CheungUK We want to thank you first of all for taking the time to write a review on your stay here at Sonesta ES Atlanta. With so many choices of hotels to choose from, we appreciate you and your family staying with us. We so much enjoyed you and your family. Your feedback on the hotel is very helpful. We want to apologize for the inconvenience of our pool renovation during your stay. Although we have a seasonal pool, our thoughts are to renovate now so we will be ready for when pool season starts. Customer service is what we thrive for, so by the team coming to your room and making the sofa sleeper, assisting you with faxes, copies, grocery stores or banks. This is what we do… it is all about customer service and what we can do to assist our guest in any way we can. We are so happy you enjoyed our Waffles; they are the highlight of our breakfast buffet. I want to apologize for the lack of china. As a new brand, these are changes that we are making, like you we too believe that plastic is not very green and we are continuing to improve this practice. As we continue with our updating and renovations of the hotel, it is all for you...our guest! We want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and we want to thank you for staying with us and look forward to your next visit back to the US and Sonesta ES Atlanta.
Thank you again Your Sonesta ES family in Atlanta Tammy Griggs-Worley; General Manager & The Sonesta ES Atlanta Team
