I recently planned a visit to Maui to visit my daughter. She recommended that I stay at the Hotel Wailea. I was somewhat skeptical of the property, since it wasn't beachfront. However, I had a great experience there. It is definitely not a resort, so one should not expect all of those amenities. I really liked that the units are spread throughout the property, so it gives a peaceful feeling. I stayed in a unit that had not been updated, but it was very comfortable - large bedroom and bathroom, living room, kitchenette, and balcony with an ocean view. There is a nice pool area. There is a shuttle that can take you to the beach, which is shared with the Grand Wailea. The restaurant on premises, Capische, is very good. The staff is attentive and helpful.
I would definitely return to this property. I recommend it only for adults, though. It does not have the amenities, activities or atmosphere appropriate for children. « less

We chose the Hotel Wailea as a place to enjoy the beauty of Maui, recharge our batteries and have a little space to spread out. While it is not directly on the beach, we chose a one bedroom that afforded a view of the ocean framed by lush landscape. If you are into beaching it, there are cabanas available outside the Grand Wailea that are private and provides reciprocal benefits at the Grand Wailea restaurants and bars. The staff at the hotel is fabulous. Everyone from housekeeping to valet to check-in were very helpful. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 is that there are some areas that are starting to look a little worn around the edges (but are in the process of being refurbished) and some disappointments with an onsite restaurant. Check ahead of time if the restaurant is available for use later in the day. It is not owned by the property and may be closed for special events. « less

The staff at this hotel were great, the lady that makes drinks at the pool and delivers them was awesome. We had a one bedroom with kitchenette, the kitchenette was no good, didn't have hardly anything to use, 2 glasses, 2 cups, 2 knives and forks and spoons that was it. The view though was amazing, it not beachside but I think its better because you get away from the crowds. The friendly chickens that came each night a sunset to sleep in the banana tree beside our Lanai were unique. « less

I don't normally stay at hi end hotels, but I decided to splurge for 2 days while in maui, based on price and hotel level the hotel wailea was a relative bargain. Reviews were dead on. The place is beautiful, serene and spacious. Considering it was fully booked, it seemed as if we were the only ones there. The reasonable resort fee, was fair, considering, self parking was included, a great beach, and umbrella and chairs. Rooms were great, however outdated as other reviews indicated. However not in poor shape, and very well kept. In fact, this is why the price is fair for the level of hotel this is. We got the special panoramic ocean view room at 239 per night, in my opinion, a spectacular deal. The grounds are breathtaking, and meticulous. I'd definitely recommend hotel wailea « less
