This was a nice clean and comfortable hotel that worked well for a home base while taking day trips into New York City. The breakfast has a nice selection. The toilets and the fan are a bit noisy. If you're a light sleeper you might want to ask for a room that faces away from the traffic as the front of this hotel sits right along Route 1 and the traffic can be heavy at times. The price is reasonable compared to downtown NYC. « less

I came here for a short getaway just to enjoy some time to relax. I can tell you this place did not disappoint. Daisy greeted us at the front desk and did an amazing job checking us in. She set the tone off perfectly as she made us feel absolutely comfortable and at ease with her thorough run down of the hotel and her charming personality. She knows what it means to be hospitable. And I got a gift bag filled with treats!
The suite with a whirlpool could not have been any better. The value you recieve for this kind of room was amazing. So much space! Very clean! Only gripe was that the room faced the main road so you could hear traffic driving by but the sound tunes out eventually. We were too excited about the value and the jacuzzi to care. The hotel provided a bunch of dinner recommendations in the area (there's a lot!) so my lady friend and I had a romantic dinner and then wound down with a dip in the pool and the in our room's jacuzzi.
Front desks night agent was very accommodating with regards to a bit of a later check out. I didn't get her name but she offered cookies which were absolutely delicious.
Overall I loved my time there and would definitely return and recommend to others. Defintely go for a jacuzzi room. You won't be disappointed! « less

Stayed in the hotel for the last couple of days of our holiday. Had a discount coupon for the first night accepted without a problem. second night,had a good triple A rate, which made the room rate very good. Nice clean hotel ,staff very friendly , traffic noise could be a problem if you are a light sleeper if room faces H1. Only 10 miles from the airport which is very convenient as we had to return the car by 7am. If you, as we did want to spend the day in New York , short drive to Elizabeth parked the car and caught the train. Good selection for breakfast served from 6am. Good for grab and go. Would definitely stay hear again if flying in or out of Newark. « less

I made my reservation in the UK, and it seemed straight forward. I was informed that I could make payments when checking out, WHICH YOU DO. However when i checked in I was expected to provide a full payment of the entire stay. My personal card was initially declined so i provided my business credit card, which was accepted. However i was posted a rapid checkout the next morning. So i went to the front desk and stressed that my booking is for nights. I offered to make a cash settlement for the one night i stayed. Once again on the second day , i got a rapid checkout, this time i decided to rapidly checkout 2 nights into the 5 nights stay. when checking out i made a payment for the second night using my personal card. My account was settled. I checked in at the Renaissance hotel which was a lot less. The service we got was fabulous, the staff were friendly and the rooms were very clean with a lot less traffic noise. The restaurant staff at Holiday Inn found it more interesting texting on their phones then replacing dried and hardened eggs and bacon for guests. When i went to a near by restaurant outside the hotel, my card was DECLINED!!! I immediately rang my bank in the UK. Once they verified my details the informed me that i had to be put through to the FRAUD team. They informed me that my card had been compromised. Holiday Inn had put through a total of three transactions for $583 $340 and $186 as a "ONLINE PURCHASE" I immediately contacted Holiday Inn customer relations, who were not particular helpful. Within a short time the Holiday Inn were i stayed at rang and left a message. Informing me that "since i intended to stay for five nights they put through the whole amount" Nice try?? WHY WOULD THEY PUT THROUGH 5 NIGHTS AS ONLINE TRANSACTION AND ESPECIALLY IF I HAD ALREADY SETTLED 2 NIGHTS. On return to the UK, i contacted my bank who have since informed me to destroy the card and have since issued me a new one. This was a terrible experience for me and a huge inconvenience to my trip to have, to have my card stopped once Holiday Inn attempted to their "ONLINE TRANSACTION" to add it cost me a total of $410 in several phone calls to my bank back in the UK. « less

I was looking to make a day trip to NYC without having to pay to stay in mid-town Manhattan. My primary reasons for selecting this hotel was the Holiday Inn Express name and its proximity to a couple of NJTransit stations. After staying for the night I can tell you that my experience could have been better. It wasn't that the room was dirty or that the hotel wasn't accommodating. It was a bunch of other things that will cause me to consider other options. First the hotel is right on US 1 which is a major road through this area. Based on other reviews I requested a room on the back side of the hotel which faces a residential neighborhood. Even there I could hear the road. I could not imagine what it would be like on the front side of the hotel. Also the HVAC fan cycles on and off with the unit so you can use the fan to drown out the noise. Speaking of noise I could hear everything that was going on in the rooms around me - doors closing, toilets flushing, etc. Based on the design of the lobby this hotel I think this hotel may not have always been a Holiday Inn Express. Perhaps the previous hotel chain didn't have the same build specifications that Holiday Inn has. Breakfast was typical hotel breakfast but they did not have any Orange Juice and two of the other three juices were out. This may seem petty but the point of a chain hotel is consistent expectations across all properties. Lastly, the staff with the exception of the young lady who checked me in were just kind of there. No greeting, no real enthusiasm. When one travels a welcoming perception from those in the places we visit is important to feeling a part of the area even for the short amount of time we might be there. Staying in New Jersey and taking commuter rail into NYC can save you money. I'll just be saving my money at a different hotel.
A note about getting into the hotel: Going northbound on US 1 the entrance to the hotel is just after the NJ 35 interchange. Be careful the merge lane from NJ 35 is also the lane you need to be in to get into the hotel. Southbound on US 1 you'll have to make a U-Turn at NJ 35 and head back to the hotel. « less
