We stayed at the Dolphin Inn for one night during off-season while in town for the half marathon. The hotel was overpriced for off-season, but the location was right and we were booking at the last minute.
Pros: Good location right on the beach, walking distance to restaurants, etc., parking garage, friendly service. We had an ocean-facing suite with a separate bedroom and living area, a jacuzzi tub, and a kitchenette including a coffee maker. The room was clean. The beds were just ok. The shower/tub was huge with great water pressure. It was too chilly to use the oceanfront balcony, but that would be great in season.
Cons: The hotel is a little tired - some sprucing up might help justify the rate. The amenities are bare-bones - thin towels, cheap toiletries, bedding really needs to be replaced. The rooms need blackout curtains given the very bright street lights outside (the lights might not be the hotel's fault, but better curtains would help).
Overall fine for a beach trip. Definitely not luxurious, but good location and meets needs. Virginia Beach isn't my favorite beach destination so I probably won't be back unless it's for another race. « less

The room was exactly as described on the web site BUT it was so worn and shabby. The chair at the desk was literally falling apart. A blanket on one of the double beds had a huge hole in it. The pull out sofa was not fit to sit in - you sank in it - no support and that was just sitting - can't imagine what it would be like for sleeping. The wall paper was dirty. Their were stains on the drapes that I wouldn't even want to imagine guessing what caused them. Location was good and the people working there were friendly and helpful. The double beds were comfortable. But all in all the ambiance was icky. « less

We arrived in the afternoon, during a very bad rainstorm. Was very easy to find. Parking garage was right by check-in, so was able to go in and register without getting wet. We were assigned a room on the 10th floor. Beautiful views from the balcony. Room was very nice. Loved the indoor pool on the 8th floor as it was too cold to swim in the ocean. Nice pool area. Location was pretty good. Lots of little shops in the area and food vendors. Although at the time not all places were open for the season yet. Favorite part, sitting on balcony, drinking coffee in the am and treated to a show by the dolphins swimming 25 yards from shore!!! Adequate parking, clean roomsand a helpful staff made this a very nice mini vacation!!! « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"This website has been an absolute life saver for us! The huge medical convention at McCormick Place had many, many rooms booked or blocked, and my mother and I had called dozens of hotels and been told there was no way we could do wedding blocks!" L.M. - Chicago, IL
"Our hotel stay was wonderful. The hotel was very accomodating and well organized. We appreciate all that every one did for us. I have already told other groups about your service and plan on using it again myself." C.V. - Suwannee, FL
