The Red Lion Hotel Portland Convention Center is a great, affordable option for groups in the Lloyd District (a short drive or MAX light rail ride away from Downtown Portland). They offer cozy, no-frills accommodations at a fair price, and have one of the best summertime meeting spaces in Portland - Their "Windows Skyroom & Terrace" features fantastic views on all sides (especially of the convention center) and a large outdoor deck that is perfect for organized receptions or just a happy hour drink. The rooms (as well as the common areas) are simple but nice, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating to groups. Their location in Lloyd Center puts them only 3 blocks away from the Rose Garden Arena and the Memorial Coliseum, and near many restaurants, shops, and galleries. In general, this hotel is a good value, and a good alternative for groups wanting to avoid Downtown Portland prices while still having a nice location.

We didn't need fancy accommodations, just a spot close to the MAX for getting Downtown. It's time for a remodel, and this is going to happen over the summer according to the staff we met in the elevator. We got a reasonable rate for our group for two nights with a buffet breakfast included at this property. No complaints except one. We had specifically requested in advance that gluten free options be available on the breakfast buffet they did for us, and the only GF thing offered on both mornings was fruit (alongside assorted muffins, Danish pastries, quiche, coffee and juice). On the second morning, two of us thought it would just be easier and faster to bring our own breakfast since we didn't have a lot of time to eat, have a meeting, get packed and check out. The catering manager later apologized, but said she wouldn't credit us with the breakfast charge for two people. She said that we should have tracked down the kitchen staff ourselves to be sure they were putting out gluten free things. Once the buffet was set up for us in the Windows room each morning, we didn't see staff until they came in to clear at the end. Rather than spending the breakfast time tracking people down or explaining what is and isn't gluten free, we opted to use the time for our morning meetings. The waiter setting up the buffet was very nice, but it wasn't his fault that no one in the hotel had communicated to him about the GF requests or had prepared anything for him to put out that was GF. If you stay here with a group and have any dietary restrictions or food allergies in the group, it would be better/safer/faster if you opt out of the hotel breakfast and bring your own food. Other details: Overnight parking was $14 per vehicle per night. Front desk staff were very nice and helpful. There is no pool at this hotel, but there is a small work-out room. The rooms have small refrigerators which are handy if you bring your own food.

Property Description

Renovated hotel adjacent to the Oregon Convention Center (closest to the Convention Center)within 3 blocks of the Rose Garden Arena and the Memorial Coliseum, in the Lloyd District.All guest rooms feature pillow top mattresses, complimentary high speed wireless internet service, refrigerators, 37" flat panel televisions, one king or two queen beds and more. Upgraded rooms also offer microwaves.Grand Ballroom has been renovated and features new carpet, wall and window treatments, new lighting and sound. 4043 square feet, which can split into four rooms. Windows Skyroom and Rooftop Terrace finished renovation in 2011 with gorgeous views of the Portland skyline. Conference suite for 8-10 people also available.Cafe currently open for breakfast. Windows Skyroom & Lounge is open nightly from 4pm with city views and happy hour menu until 7pm. Food and sundries marketplace in Hotel Lobby.PLEASE NOTE: Our hotel will close on August 31, 2014 for about 8 months. When it reopens in May, 2015 it will no longer be a Red Lion Hotel. It will be a 4 star, boutique style luxury hotel with all the amenities and services to match.
