We travelled to Doswell, VA for a one time event in April. We stayed in the Country Inn and Suites. I am happy to say this was a very good experience, the room was spacious and clean. If you are heading to the Old Dominion amusement park it is right across the street. Also close to Richmond and many restaurants and nightlife areas. It was full the night we stayed but quiet, also a good hot breakfast next am. « less

We had three familys stay here for the Dance Review at Kings Dominion. My six year old ran to the room, changed into her swim suit and was ready for the pool. However, the pool looked like a swamp. Dark green. You could smell the algae when you walked in. The front desk said they had put chemicals in at 4:30 PM and that it was safe to swim in. However, the board in the pool area that they show when they last checked the temperature and chemical levels showed that it had been done on 3/30... we checked in on 4/12. This ruined the stay for many. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, our friends were in Room 107. The sink was practically falling off the wall. Their A/C did not work so their room was a sweat box. Breakfast was okay. Waffle machine did not cook the waffles all the way through. For a hotel that is only three years old we were very disappointed. We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites at Hanover last year... wish we had gone back. The nicest part was that it was a short drive after leaving Kings Dominion since it is right across the street, If you get a room I suggest getting one on the front of the hotel. There was some train noise, but it did not keep me up. However, it actually made the headboard shake one morning. I guess you take the good with the bad. Cheaper than Hanover, but so was the quality. « less

The hotel itself was fine, but the train in the backyard was awful. I saw other reviewers mention it, but didn't think it would be that bad. Well, it's literally in the backyard and it runs several times during the middle of the night. The room actually shakes. I'm a heavy sleeper, but it woke me up every time. Maybe a room at the front of the property would be better, but probably not much. It's a great location for King's Dominion, which is why we stayed here, but there are no restaurants in the area either. Next time we'll stay in either Ashland or Glen Allen. You have to drive there to eat dinner anyway. « less

Stopped in Doswell instead of usual stop in Fredricksburg ....... to try some place different, next time will continue on. This country Inn was ok, but nothing special....it was the off season, but facility appears "tired and worn out a bit", could use some sprucing up. Room was ok and beds comfortable and for the room rate was a nice one night stop, but not as nice at the C I &S on RT17 in Fredricksburg we didnt think. Did hear the trains during the night, but not too bad unless you are a light sleeper with the window open. Breakfast was ok and the staff very friendly. « less
