This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was snowing and raining, the front desk told me I had to walk through the lobby and outside to get to my room. The outside was a mess, cords everywhere, very unkept. When i got to my room it was just as bad. White particals on the floor, old heating system(either it was too hot or cold air blew), wall were patched but not painted. Just very bad. Tv volume didn't work so some channels were louder than others. Went to take a shower, cracked walls, shower head was new and nice but pointed outward and sprayed all over the floor. So glad I was there for one day only. « less

This is an old property with exterior corridor rooms. The carpet in our room was stained and there were multiple stains in the tub/bathroom. BUT, it was clean and everything worked. Included were a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Ironing board but no iron--perhaps you have to ask for it at the front desk. We stayed in a separate building from where the lobby was located and it was just too cold to fetch an iron early in the morning! There was a sink inside the bathroom and outside of the bathroom, which is nice if sharing the room. The beds were firm and comfortable. The provided hair dryer is one of those ancient things attached to the wall that wouldn't blow out a candle, let alone dry or style your hair!
There is a restaurant and full service bar, which is nice. A decent restaurant across the street and other choices within a mile or two. Hotel is conveniently located right off of hwy 95. We did not find it too noisy at all.
Two employees were at front desk for check in--one was on the phone with a customer and the other wouldn't assist us--just told us to wait. But when he did finish with his call, he was very nice. We waited about ten minutes while the other employee just seemed to be watching. Odd.
Would recommend but only if you get a very good rate and know what to expect. Not luxury, but adequate. « less

We got this hotel as an Expedia special rate- you don't get the name until after you book- hotel. We got it for a really good price considering something was going on in Richmond this week and most of the downtown hotel were booked or very expensive. For the price we paid ($50 plus tax), it was a good overall value. The hotel is directly next to and almost under Interstate 64 on N. Boulevard (if you type in North Blvd, your GPS might take you an interesting route that is not right). The benefit is that it is very easy to get on and off the interstate. The con is that if you are in the back of the hotel I'm sure it is noisy. We didn't hear any traffic noise from our room except for one siren. The service at this hotel was pretty decent. I forgot to book the hotel on Expedia under both my name and my husband's name. Considering he beat me to the hotel by 2 hours (we were both there on business, had to take 2 cars), they refused to allow him to check in because the room was pre-paid. Personally, I think this is a dumb policy- we have the same last name which is not a common name, he had a picture ID, he knew my information to check in with and they wouldn't let him check in. He had to be at work in 45 minutes and so I called the clerk. She finally let me read her my confirmation number and let him check in. It wasn't her fault and she was doing her job, but it is a dumb policy and my mistake. Also, they had no problem with late checkout at 1 pm instead of 12pm and they (there was a lady on the phone and a guy at the desk when I arrived) seemed pretty nice in the 4 contacts I had with them. Pros: 1. The room was large and had 2 sinks which is a nice touch 2. Room had fridge/microwave 3. 3 pillows on each bed (which meant 6 pillows on the one bed we used) 4. Beds are 2 queens instead of 2 doubles 5. Room was CLEAN and didn't smell- also the heat was on for us when we arrived- nice touch 6. Washable comforter on the bed and it smelled and looked clean 7. Hotel has free and ample parking (huge plus for downtown Richmond), fitness center, seasonal pool (closed), business center with 2 computers, and free internet. 8. Plenty of fluffy towels and nice hot water with really good pressure
Cons: 1. The beds were hard 2. The room was dated- the tub was scratched up, the bathroom ceiling and tub surround were cracked and hastily patched, the TV was an old school CRT 3. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM with the hotel was that the property is huge and to save money or maybe because they don't have any, there wasn't many outside lights. Not even all the lights in the lobby/meeting rooms/business center were on. The hotel is huge and without lights it becomes scary for a woman by herself to walk from the room to the car, the room to the lobby, inside the lobby itself etc. Also the neighborhood around the hotel is transitioning. On one side, there are really nice and clean houses, but on the other is the interstate and warehouse type/empty buildings. This added to my unease. 4. 80% of the rooms have outside entrances, only building C appeared to have inside entrances- we were in building A. 5. The locals use the parking lots as meeting places 6. My other big annoyance was that the rooms had nothing explaining anything about the hotel- nothing explaining TV channels, restaurant/bar hours, locations of business center/fitness center, nothing saying these local restaurants deliver- nothing. All it had was a phone book and a Richmond tourism magazine. 7. No free breakfast/snack of any kind that I could see- if there was it could have been explained by number 6 above.
***Note about the TV channels- I read another review about this and I didn't understand the complaint because there is normally some kind of guide on the TV. At this hotel it is confusing because the TV guide and the channels didn't match up. For instance, Channel 4 might say Discovery Channel on the TV but was really ABC. I think the TV is still set on the cable channel guide and the hotel has switched to Direct TV causing the difference in numbers. It is not the biggest deal, but it is an easily fixable problem if the hotel just included some sort of guide in the rooms like most hotels do now.
Overall- For the price we paid, the hotel was what we needed for two nights. It was halfway between hubby's work and mine and the interstate access made the hotel convenient. This hotel is listed for 3 stars on Expedia and I'm sure at one time it was. Now it is more accurately a 2, maybe 2.5 star hotel. I have stayed at fancier 2.5 star hotels than this hotel. I think I would have been more disappointed if we had paid more than we did. « less

We stayed two nights..Our room was facing the Highway so there was quite a bit of traffic noise. I asked the lady at the front desk about changing rooms but since we were traveling with my Yorkie they only had pet friendly rooms that face the road....The room was comfortable--bed was very comfortable. The restaurant across the street- Kitchen 64 was GREAT!!! There was NO breakfast included at the hotel. « less
