Lexington's only historic hotel, Gratz Park Inn exemplifies the southern grace and charm for which Lexington is known. Each of the 34 guestrooms and 6 suites feature Tempur-Pedic mattresses excusively and are individually decorated in 19th Century style. During their stay, guests may also visit the elegant dining room and bar "Jonathan at Gratz Park." Chef Jonathan Lundy creates a menu of refined regional cuisine and offers an exclusive selection of fine wines and spirits. The Inn is intimate, luxurious and personal, yet convenient to Lexington's two universities, Keeneland Race Course, Rupp Arena, the airport, and area attractions.

We recently stayed here for the weekend while attending the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby. The hotel is smaller, quaint, quiet, and has charm. We found our room with two tall beds slightly cramped to navigate around the dresser with the two beds but enjoyed the "look" of the furniture and the Tempur-Pedic bed. The room was tidy and clean with a little wear (broken drawer knobs and a bed post that kept falling off) but was comfortable and included free wifi (plus!). We spent time walking nearby for our other engagements - the area was pleasant, safe, and had some options for food and beverage. We enjoyed 2 breakfast meals at the restaurant - hot, tasty, and plentiful. Your room will come with an actual metal key - so don't lose it! Did not have time to check out fitness options... It would be a nice retreat for a couple and served our purposes for a business/pleasure stay. « less

This was my first visit to Gratz Park Inn, and probably my last. The courtyard and lobby made promises that the rest of the hotel didn't uphold. The excellent restaurant right off the lobby is independent of the hotel, and the pub-like bar at the rear entrance set a standard that the hotel would do well to follow.
When reservations were made, it was very clear that breakfast was to be served, but our first morning there was "continental" because Monday is the chef's day off. The continental breakfast made me wonder which "continent" was referenced in the title because the glazed donuts featured in the limited spread didn't remind me of anything found on "the continent."
Complimentary tea and coffee sounded like a good idea -- if either the coffee or the water for tea had been "hot" -- couldn't drink either.
The breakfast in the dingy, windowless, basement room seemed like real stretch for the hotel. The "chef" was a lovely woman with a hotplate. The lack of decor and the obscure setting made me wonder whether Gratz management had even visited the restaurant upstairs off the lobby.
Rooms -- nice, but certainly not higher than 3 stars. The bathroom was pretty "tired," and the shower "hot and cold" was impossible to regulate. There was plenty of either, but it was impossible to adjust to a temperature suitable for showering. The room windows had blinds with a valence waking us with a bright morning sun. These comments come from the experience of three rooms our party utilized. « less

Okay, it is not the Ritz Carlton but for Lexington it is really nice. First, it is just far enough away from the main downtown which provides peace and quite. The lobby is small but who spends time in a hotel lobby? The bar is friendly staffed and has a heavenly selection of bourbons. The only downsides are 1) The breakfast is in the basement...it is a little murky and uncomfortable. 2) The hotel is old...not in a bad way but certainly not contemporary or hip if that is your style and 3) When I was there the internet signal was not too strong. There are three great restaurants walking distance away and the 'fact' the place is haunted gives you something to think about pre-sleep. There is a Hilton and Hyatt downtown but you get a Hilton and Hyatt....not bad just different. Lastly, Jonathon's restaurant is fantastic. Probably the best food in the downtown area! This place has an old hotel / B&B feel to it. « less

I stayed here for two nights recently and was not impressed. There was no in-room refrigerator, no room service, and breakfast was expensive and not great. My biggest complaint was that the room was very dark, with only two small lamps for the entire room. I wasn't crazy about the thick carpet either. The one positive was the restaurant Jonathan's- the dinner there was amazing. « less
