The hotel atmosphere is really nice. Helpfull staff and great location on the hotel. Very short from the beach, short way to shoping street and in perfect dtstance to night clubs so that you don't hear the music from night clubs that's located further down the street.
They don't serve breakfast but Starbuck is only 50 m away. Great place that I would reccomend to friends and deffinitely visit again. « less

After reading some other reviews I'm saddened by such petulant sounding people. Playa is a small beach town, much like you'd find in the Caribbean, so if you're expecting to stay at a Four Seasons with palatial rooms and free-flowing hot water and gallant butlers then you may want to pony-up an extra thousand per night and head to Fiji. Otherwise, stay at Kinbe. The quaint, private, and super convenient property is only outdone by the staff - starting with Stefania, the owner, who is on-call for her guests always. We had an issue with our first room (no fault of Kinbe, but some construction going on down the block) and she promptly moved us to another room - room 13. If you can get room 13 you should - its one of the best in all of Playa. You will be taken care of here, that's for sure. And if you like a quiet, peaceful and relaxing beachbum vacation you should stay at Kinbe. I've been going to Playa for several years and have now found my #1 go-to spot. Don't ruin it by being so spoiled...the same goes for the magnificent beach that's only a 50-meter walk from the front door of the hotel. Thanks to the staff and to the wonderful people in Playa. « less

Room was dark particularly the bathroom. Being on top floor it took a long time for warm water to reach the bathroom. There was very small shelf for toiletries in bathroom and no dresser or cabinet to store clothes. Metal covered stairway is noisy. Being a block off the beach and off 5th Ave. the room was fairly quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. Likely would not stay here again. « less

To be brief, the photos make this hotel look charming and when you first arrive the small lobby and garden area look inviting. The rooms are very small, dark, dingy feeling. The air cond. is a unit not central air, loud and inconsistant air (i.e. on or off, too cold or not cold enough). The bathroom was a complete nightmare. The floor of the shower is made of river rocks. You are literally stepping on bumpy rocks like walking into the ocean on coral. It was ridiculous and sloped downward toward the drain. I could only stand in the stall, no room to move around and it had a curtain which barely kept in the water. The bath is so small, you bump into the sink and towel rack. There was no room around the round sink to place toiletries.
The bed was hard and had a thin spread. Everything smelled like smoke, pillows and all. This was more like a Spring Break type of hotel, not at all a boutique experience. The worst part was that we could hear the music blaring from the nightclubs all night long (they closed at 8am!) and could not sleep. We checked out after one night and went to the Reina Roja where the rooms were bigger, new, clean and modern but much more expensive.
The hotel staff didn't assist with our complaints about noise. They did not offer a different room or help with cancelling the reservation. The front desk person did not speak much English, and kept referring us to the manager who was never there when he said she would be. This was infuriating and made things more difficult about checking out. We basically checked out not knowing if we would get any money back.
Insead, they referred us to hotels.com where we booked the trip and it took me one month to get a partial refund through hotels for cancelling the reservation due to the impossible situation caused by night club noise.
The beach is very small, overcrowded and pretty much washed away. There are loungers to rent but this part of town is very busy.
I got a very good deal on the price but this did not offset the CONS. The only plus is that you are in the center of the action. I would not recommend this hotel unless you are on Spring Break. « less
