The hotel stands on the site formerly occupied by the historic Nueces Hotel, once considered the finest hotel in the state. Built in 1913, the Nueces Hotel was destroyed as a result of Hurricane Celia in 1970.
On the site of the old Nueces Hotel arose the current ten-story hotel which was known for a time as the Ramada Inn Bayfront, La Quinta Royale, Bayfront Plaza Hotel,Corpus Christi Royale and Royale Nueces. In 2008, the hotel was purchased and renamed the
Hotel Corpus Christi Bayfront.
