The Wayfarer Inn, Bedford, NH is located on the site of the historical John Goffe's Mill. In 1744, "Hunter John" Goffe built the powered saw and gristmill. The mill was operated for more than 2 centuries by his decendants. In 1845 the mill burt down and rebuilt the following year. The Spring Flood of 1909 cause a collapse of the mill. 20 years later, Dr. George Woddbury (8th descendant of John Goffe)restored the mill and cottage (still located on site)and operated it through the 1940's and 1950's. In 1962, the Dunfey's opened it up at the Wayfarer Motor Inn. Due to the Dunfey's political prominence, the hotel became the center for political and social gatherings. The Wayfarer is still the main site for the NH Primary. In Sept 2003, Jiten Hotel Management, Inc, purchased the Wayfarer Inn. WIth over 40 years of proud service to the community, The Wayfarer Inn looks forward to continuing to enhance the land settled over 200 years ago by John Goffe.
