The Purdy House was built by Samuel Horton, an early settler, who remained in possession until after 1730, when Samuel Purdy purchased the house and 132 acres.
Title see-sawed from Samuel to his son, Jacob, then back to Samuel, and finally to Jacob about 1785. One explanation might be because two of Samuel's five sons became Loyalists and fled to Canada. Jacob held title until his own death in 1822.
The Purdy family continued in possession until the house was sold to Samuel Mott in 1869.
By the 1960's the house, forgotten and neglected, had become a multi-family dwelling, slated for demolition by the Urban Renewal Agency.
The Battle of White Plains Monument Committee purchased the house in 1963, and repaired and restored old beams and shingles. In 1973, when the house moved to its present site on Park Avenue, the house was deeded to the City of White Plains.
The Jacob Purdy House has been source-documented as General Washington's Headquarters from July 23 to September 16, 1778. Historians also believe it to have been the General's Headquarters before the Chatterton Hill battle of October 28, 1776.
On April 31, 1979, the house was placed upon the National Register of Historic Places.

Marymount College of Fordham University was a women's college in the United States, eventually to become part of Fordham University. The Marymount campus was located in Tarrytown, New York. Cove Island Park is a beach in The Cove section of Stamford, Connecticut, located on Long Island Sound. It is a popular spot for residents of Stamford to go rollerblading, biking and walking, as well as enjoy barbecues and ride the tram around the island.
Since 2000 the park has been the headquarters of SoundWaters, a nonprofit environmental education organization that offers a free small aquarium, music, canoe trips, school trips and family activities on land and aboard an 80-foot schooner.
Outside the entrance of the park, there is a rink known as the Terry Conners Ice Rink, where children usually skate in the winter, take skating lessons, or even reserve the rink for special occasions, such as birthdays. It is located behind the Heckscher Farm just off Scofieldtown Road, and parking spaces are plentiful. On the second Tuesday of most months the F.C.A.S. conducts membership meetings which are open and free to the public. They typically feature a guest lecturer or astronomy documentary.
Planetarium - The planetarium is located in the Museum building and is open to the public on the second Sunday of each month at 3 P.M. A modest admission fee applies here as well.

Castle Gould and Hempstead House are located on what is now called Sands Point Preserve. The estate was created by Howard Gould, the son of financier and railroad tycoon Jay Gould, who purchased the land in 1900 and 1901. Most of the out-buildings, including the limestone stable and servants quarters now called Castle Gould, were completed by 1904. The design of Castle Gould was based on Kilkenny Castle in Ireland.
The main residence, called Hempstead House, designed in the style of a Tudor manor house, was completed in 1912. The building features an exterior of granite and Indiana limestone, the latter stone being used for hte decorative elements. The massive structure is 225 feet long, 135 feet wide, has 3 floors, 40 rooms, and an 80 foor tower. It was considered one of the most opulent homes on Long Island's Gold Coast.
Howard Gould sold the estate to Daniel Guggenheim in 1917. Daniel gave 90 acres of the estate to his son Harry F. Guggenheim who built his home in the style of a Normandy manor house.
In 1942, Castle Gould, Hempstead House and 162 acres were donated to The Institute of Aeronautical Sciences. The instute leased, then sold the property to the United States Navy. The navy used the property for the design and testing of electronic systems. In 1967 the Navy moved their operations and the property was declared government surplus. In 1971, Nassau County acquired 127 acres for public recreational use. Also in 1971, Harry Guggenheim died and in accordance with his will, most of his 90 acre estate was deeded to Nassau County for use as a museum site.

Norwood is a village located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,685.
The Village of Norwood is on the town line of two towns so that it is partly in the Town of Potsdam and partly in the Town of Norfolk. The village is north of Potsdam.
The community was known early in its history as "Raquetteville." Norwood as it is known today, grew out of the shadows of Potsdam, New York in the 1870s. In 1871 the growing Potsdam hamlet became a village entered into existence as the "Village of Potsdam Junction."
Villagers later wanted to further distinguish the town by disassociating its name with Potsdam and submitted proposal to the federal government to become the Village of Baldwin but it was discovered that there was already a post office named Baldwin. A short time later on April 15, 1875 a new name was voted on and Norwood was selected. The mayor of Norwood is currently Jim McFadden.

Pelham Bay is a neighborhood in the borough of the Bronx, in New York City. It is named for Pelham Bay Park, New York City's largest park which lies on the neighborhood's northeastern border.
Most of the neighborhood is land that was purchased by Thomas Pell in 1654, part of an original grant to the Dutch West India Company.
Despite the name, the area that is now the Pelham Bay neighborhood was not part of the historical Town of Pelham, which consisted of the modern-day town of Pelham in Westchester County as well as Pelham Bay Park and City Island in the Bronx. The latter two areas were annexed by the City of New York in 1895.
