We stayed there for a wedding in May of 2013. The reception was not at the hotel. We used the hotel as a base and it worked very well for that. great location. Good room prices and good value for the money. The rooms were clean with great in room service. I also thought the rooms were very large compared to say a Hampton Inn. The location of the hotel was perfect as well. With inn walking distance of lots to do. We would stay at this hotel again. « less

I only stayed one night at the Siena but was impressed with several things. First, because I joined the free "I Prefer" guest benefit program when I reserved my room online, I got an upgrade to a larger room at no extra cost, and since I was staying mid-week, my room seemed to me almost a bargain. My room was lovely and very spacious. The bathroom had a large shower, but I do wish it had had a tub for a long, leisurely soak. Second, every member of the staff that I encountered was attentive and seemed to be genuinely interested in seeing to it that I was happy with everything. The little extras like the robe laid out on the bed and the chocolates on the pillow -- things many fine hotels have dropped over the years -- are still part of the Siena's ambiance. The hotel's location isn't in the most walkable part of Chapel Hill, but it is only a five minute drive from all the major areas you might want to visit. Even though it is on busy Franklin Street and even though I slept with one window slightly opened, the street noise was no issue whatsoever. I ate dinner with friends at Il Palio, one of our favorite restaurants in the area, and -- as always -- both the food and service were impeccable. The Siena is lovely and will treat you like a valued guest, as they did me. I highly recommend giving it a try. « less

one of the friendliest, best kept comfortable hotels my wife and I have ever stayed in. the staff is very helpful. The rooms are well appointed with reproductions of Italian 16th century art. Parking is free, and wireless internet is complimentary.
It's not within walking distance of much, but it's a short drive to just about anything in Chapel Hill.
They have some complimentary pastries, fruit and coffee in the lobby, and their breakfast is quite good and reasonably priced. « less

We stayed five nights at the Siena, had breakfast most mornings and dinner on three nights. The hotel is elegant with a fine, lobby area (see picture), a snazzy meeting room, a minimal fitness room...and a truly fine restaurant. The staff is particularly helpful and attentive. The hotel is set back from the busy street, with adequate parking between the fountain and statues and the hotel itself (which has outdoor seating and dining when the weather is warmer than it was for us). The bakery chef made a splendid last-minute chocolate cake for the special family occasion which brought us to town.
We won't elaborate on the restaurant here, but Il Palio is justifiably considered to be one of the best in town. One can have truly fresh-squeezed orange juice for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners, which included excellent scallops, a fine bison steak, splendid appetizers, and good wine selections. Service was excellent. The restaurant is quite expensive but definitely worth it for special occasions.
Our room was fine, although there was no safe and there was just a fancy shower (no tub) in the bathroom. The free wi-fi internet worked fine. Housekeepers were friendly, worked on our room when requested, and did a fine job.
We had a number of fairly minor problems. While we were staying on the third floor, the fire sprinkler system in the ceiling of the second floor was being upgraded...so there were sporadic loud noises. It also meant that the fitness room, on the second floor, was closed (even though we had phoned ahead the week before to ask if there was a fitness room, and were not told that it would be closed during what was, presumably, an already-scheduled period of maintenance). However, hotel guests have free use of a larger fitness room and an indoor pool at the Y, about a mile away, which can be reached by the hotel van. A fire alarm went off in the middle of one night. Both phones in the room malfunctioned and, somehow, the promise that they would be fixed while we were gone one day was not transmitted to the maintenance staff...but they were promptly replaced by a friendly repairman as soon as we called down again. Finally, we left a package on Saturday morning to be given to FedEx first thing Monday for 2-day delivery; unfortunately, hotel staff failed to notify FedEx of the pick-up, so it was picked up too late on Monday and thus didn't arrive until Thursday. In all cases, hotel staff were profusely apologetic for what had gone wrong...and we left with a good feeling. The hotel is fairly expensive but definitely worth it. « less
