The hotel is under massive work in process. I' m a long time customer but perhaps this will be th last time in this hotel. A big mess averywhere, rooms newly refurbished but smaller than before. New furniture and room decoration (new rooms) of low level. No food or drink everywhere in the hotel, no drink in the room. Ok , I could accept this but with a lower rate. The rate I paid is full rate as the hotel was fully operational. Sorry Sirs, this is not a good policy. « less

This time was my wife treating our 2 adult daughters to a chick trip. Flight delay gave 9:30pm check-in after 15 hr flight so tired but excited trio. Staff very welcoming, gave info on restaurants & take-out food due hotel refurbishing. 11th floor room so no noise problems. Newly refurbished room, very comfortable. Needs more hanging facility in bathroom for towels & clothes. Would have been nice to have coffee/tea making facilities in room particularly while room service suspended but also ongoing. Daughters enjoyed gym available at 3am on arrival. 6am check-out for early flight, was smooth, always friendly, courteous, helpful doorman had taxi waiting. Return visit already being planned. « less

Due to renovation there is no restaurant, no lounge, no room service, and the place is noisy from sunrise to sunset with the construction. There is even no place to get coffee in the morning without going to a near by restaurant of Starbucks around the corner!! NONE of this was revealed at the time the reservation was made, yet Accor continues to charge the FULL rate, including taxes, of about $400 per night. The construction is scheduled to last into the fall so this is not a minor deal or inconvenience. This is a TRUE DISASTER!!!! As for the room, it was unusually cold the night I stayed there, however, the A/C had been turned on for the season, so increasing the thermostat temperature only meant pushing more cold air into the room and making it colder. « less

So..... As the title states - this hotel is under renovation. It's debatable as to whether or not it should still be open just now. It's arguably greedy. Rather than closing the hotel they have kept it open and are almost certainly taking a lot longer to do the renovation as a result of staying open.
I arrived at the hotel and went it what felt like a side entrance. They only had one elevator working, so at busy times this may be a bit of a drag. The lobby is upstairs. The front desk clerk was really polite and gave me a great welcome. He checked me in quickly, gave me a Wi-Fi code, and a nice little welcome pack with a bottle of water, some ear plugs, and a muesli bar. The ear plugs were a bit of a concern, but thankfully I didn't need them.
The room was a good size, and had a decent view down to the Hudson. I could see the USS Intrepid and the gorgeous BA Concorde that is parked up there.
There's not much more I can tell you about the hotel - because pretty much everything else is unavailable during the renovation. No Bar, No Restaurant, No Room Service, No Mini-Bar, and probably a few other missing things too.....
As it happens - it wasn't a major problem. The location of the hotel is fabulous and there are plenty of dining and drinking options on the doorstep. There is also a Duane Reade under the hotel which provides for the lack of a mini-bar and room service.
On check out I wanted to leave my bags in the hotels luggage room. I regret to say the Hotels Porter was a bit rude. I witnessed him being pretty rude to a couple of other guests, and I didn't think much of him either.
I was in one of the "not yet refurbished rooms". It was ok, so I can only hope that the refurbished rooms will be way better.
My guess is that post renovation this will be a great hotel. During the renovation I reckon I was paying about $60 a night too much. It's clean and well placed, so if you get a good deal during the refurb it will serve you well. If it's not a good deal - check out some other hotels in the area.
I will happily stay here again post renovation.... « less
