I often stay at name hotels. Rarely at courtyards, but when stuck for a rom i stayed t the courtyard in downtown providence. All i can say is it was excellent. The rooms were well done and bigger than most. The staff would have been at home in any 5 star hotel, and it was reasonable. Location wise it was the best. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. « less

In celebration of a birthday we spent two nights at the Courtyard Providence Downtown from April 5-7th 2013 and were very pleased. We had a whirlpool suite on the top floor and our room (#703) overlooked the Providence Place Mall. We arrived late Friday night and were warmly greeted by the front desk, (sorry I don't remember their names- there was one male and one female) they promptly checked us in and gave a brief description of the amenities available. The lobby was large, clean and modern with wifi available for convenience. Our room was clean, bright and spacious. The room had a coffee maker and refrigerator, which is always nice. Overall, the room was nice with only a few minor negatives.
-I felt the bed was a little hard; I slept ok but personally would have preferred it to be a little softer. -The room darkening curtains did not quite close all the way, leaving a slit of bright light in the morning (someone else included this in their review and I happen to notice the same thing). -The whirlpool tub needed a deep cleaning. The thing is whirlpool tubs require a lot of upkeep, which is probably not happening with the regular cleaning crew. They are cleaning the tub itself but most likely not filling the tub and running the jets. I am pretty particular when it comes to cleanliness so I planned ahead for this and just brought a small bottle of cleaner. Prior to using the tub, I filled it and ran the jets for about 10-15 minutes, drained the tub and then filled with fresh water before we got in. Most people would not even think about it or maybe not even care, I just prefer to do it myself before using it. -Parking at the hotel was $26.00 a day, with in and out rights. Prior to arrival I did some research and found that the Fidelity building located behind the hotel had 24 hour parking (I actually use this garage to park when going to the mall, since it is cheaper and easier to navigate). Since the garage is normally used during business hours they have reduced rates for the weekend. The fee for parking was $7.00 for up to a 24 hour period. Meaning, if you were only in there 2 hours, it was $7.00 or you could be in there the whole day and it was the same thing- $7.00. However, there are no in and out rights, so if you leave you pay the $7.00 all over again to go back in. Just make sure to keep your ticket with you because you must pay at the kiosk on the bottom level before you actually get in your car to leave. This garage was perfect for us, it was almost empty and we felt our car was very safe. It was a very short walk out the back of the hotel and you could easily check in/unload your car using the temporary parking at the front of the hotel before parking it in the garage.
However, in my opinion there were plenty of pro's that outweighed the cons.
-The location was great, I felt like it was right in the middle of the action but did not feel that it was noisy or crowded. The mall, waterfire, train station and any restaurant you can think of is right there! -The price was great, especially for the location. I researched and researched for a hotel that got good reviews and was going to be close enough that driving would not be necessary. This hotel met our needs perfectly. -There was a restaurant, bar, pool and hot tub on location (unfortunately, we did not have a chance to try them out). -The front desk staff were wonderful, from check in to check out they were extremely accommodating. I actually called down to the desk on Saturday night to ask if they could recommend a cab company, expecting to just get the number and call myself, the woman (sorry I don't remember her name) without hesitation actually called around for me and called us when it arrived!
Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again when we return to Providence! « less

This place has changed a lot since my last stay. The newly remodeled lobby is really nice with multiple kiosks for check in, yet only one person who was inundated with check ins. I got to check in a little early which I liked. I don't believe they had a market when I was there 3 years ago. I don't She really needed some help. The giant touch screen outt front was a nice addition for folks from out of town, but you seriously had to jab it for it to work.
A nice addition is that in the evening and late afternoon, water and fresh cookies are available downstairs for guests.
My room was nice, clean, and fresh. The rooms are a little bit bigger than your usual Courtyard. Yet, my TV didn't work and it seemed to take forever to fix it. That was my main gripe. The Paull Mitchell toiletries were great too.
The service is very polite and they do try, yet seem very unorganized. I know I may get crap for this, but it very tacky having your staff use the front entrance area for smoke breaks. Never really seen that anywhere else.

The hotel is locate right in the middle of downtown, right across the street from the mall and Waterplace Park. The staff was excellent. My daughter fell and got a pretty nasty scrape, and the man at the front desk handed me band-aids and neosporin before I could even finish asking for them. When we arrived our room wasn't quite ready, and he also gave us water and snacks while we waited. The room was cozy, comfortable, and clean. The pool and spa are small, but clean and there are plenty of towels. All in all an excellent stay! « less
