Your stay at our downtown Chicago hotel, a Kimpton Hotel of course, begins with a touch of red carpet treatment the moment you are ushered through the front door of our beautifully renovated hotel… The color bursts of ruby reds, burnt oranges and luscious greens of the lobby enrich the senses, offsetting the luxuriously deep grays and blues underfoot… all mixing with the glitz and glamour of that baby grand piano just off of the three-story staircase and the double-sided fireplace.

I stayed here for one night on my way back to LA by train from a Milwaukee conference. The Allegro is one of the closest hotels to Union Station and its special discount for rail travelers made it a no-brainer for booking.
My stay was great, though too short to really appreciate all of the features and facilities of the hotel, including the afternoon wine reception. (I arrived at the tail end of the reception, but just wanted to crash in my room.)
Room service was prompt and fulfilling.
Front desk and door staff were friendly and made me feel like I was a regular. (Who knows? I might become one.) The next time I'm planning to stay in The Loop, the Allegro will be on my short list of hotel options. :-) « less

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Allegro hotel. The hotel staff was great; concierge was more than helpful! Pointed us in a direction where we could see multiple sights on the walk to our different destinations each day. Great location- not too far away from anything really & Millennium park is real close to the hotel property as well. Very stylish and comfortable rooms too. I can't wait to plan my next trip back to this hotel! « less

After fighting to find parking (the $50 valet parking option is a little bit of a joke when the multi storey round the corner was $34 a night, or $14 per weekend day) I collapsed in a very stylish, comfortable room. Not huge by US standards, though more than enough space for my wife and I, the room was looked amazing.
After refreshing from our journey we headed downstairs for the complimentary wine hour. Being an Englishman I was quite happy to keep myself to myself however, we managed to sit next to a Scottish couple and another couple who had studied in Edinburgh. Being in a foreign country got us all talking and just like that, I was a convert to the wine hour. It's a great opportunity to have a sit down and talk to people you don't know! It also proves to provide some helpful tips about the city!
Also, make sure you register for the loyalty program - you get free wifi and $10 from the mini bar! « less

We spent two nights at the Allegro Chicago last week. This is the fifth city that we have chosen a Kimpton Hotel. In the past, Kimpton's have exceeded my expectations. So, I went to the Allegro with high expectations and was just subtly disappointed the whole time.
Before our arrival we got a nice note from the hotel manager, and check in went smoothly. Our room was larger than the one we had reserved and the hotel had left us free water bottles. However, the bathroom was the smallest I've ever seen. I could not get the shower to work without water getting everywhere.
The cable went out during our stay, but the hotel fixed it promptly after I reported it. My two major issues were with the hotel restaurant and with my final bill.
The hotel restaurant-- 312 Chicago-- does not live up to the standards I've come to expect in other Kimpton restaurants. We waited to be seated over ten minutes with plenty of open tables. The overall service was terrible. I also ordered the same breakfast two days in a row and got completely different dishes. I sent back a very dirty dish and got no apology.
When I received my bill after check out, I noticed the rate the hotel had charged me was higher than the rate I had reserved using a discount code on the Kimpton website. I have not reported this because I realized it after we had left Chicago. I'm just not going to stay there again. « less
