Clean and open room. Outstanding and friendly staff, always ready to help. Beautiful landscaping, and outdoor ameneties and lounging. Bathrooms need to be remodeled, to match decor in rest of the room. Toliet flushing, provided the same decibel as the launching of the space shuttle, felt bad for my neighbors. Executive lounge very cramped, not suitable to buisness discussions, or to releax in peace, would rather sit down in bar, or lobby as ther is more areas and seating. Was not ready for getting charged for drinks in the executive lounge. Elite Parking and Self Parking didn't matter, cost the same per night and staff under estimated number of elites staying at hotel and available parking. So better to park in the street adjacent, or in self parking. Overall nice hotel but will try different location next wek.

This was my first trip to San Diego, I chose this Marriott mainly for its location midway between the airport and the business meeting site. After work I tend to stay within walking distance of the hotel. Driving in a strange city (even with GPS) after a long day is added stress I don't want.
When I arrived, I asked Christy at the Front Desk about restaurants close to the hotel. Christy instantly (well, almost) produced some simple maps showing the shopping & dining within about a mile or two. She also pointed out the availability of the MTS Trolley to Downtown. I mean she POINTED it out, leaving the Front Desk and leading me through the hotel, outside, and pointing me to the entrance of the trolley station. With the Trolley ($5 for an all-day pass) I was able to get off at any stop that looked good; there are a lot of those. I finally got off at the Gaslamp District, where I walked around, got dinner, watched people, talked to people, and walked around some more. Not exactly painting the town red, but pretty good for being alone in a strange town on business.
If the Trolley wasn't there, I'd be unlikely to venture Downtown. However, if Christy hadn't gone the extra mile (I exaggerate, it was about 75 yards) I might've missed the chance to take advantage of my good luck. and actually SEE something of beautiful San Diego
This Hotel is in top shape, and in a good location. But it's often the service that makes the difference. If the rest of the Staff is as focused on the needs of the guests as Christy, you're likely to remember your stay fondly.

I booked this hotel because Hotwire gave it 4 stars, as does Trip Advisor. But Expedia gives it 3.5 and Booking Buddy gives it 3. I cannot imagine giving it more than 3 because the room we got and its bathroom were smaller than in a standard hotel. Other than that, the service was excellent, the hotel immaculate and the grounds and pool area very attractive. $16/day for parking is a bummer. While paid hotel parking is common in Mission Valley, street parking is available for most other hotels.
The hotel was recently renovated. The rooms are quite attractive if you like modern as I do.
You cannot walk to any restaurants or stores from this hotel, whereas you can from many Mission Valley hotels. My favorite is the Doubletree on Hazard Drive.
Room WIFI is $13, a real turnoff. It's free in the lobby.
