We stayed at the Whitehall for one night while attending the Chicago Symphony. It was the perfect hotel for our needs. The renovation was very impressive and the rooms were great. Not huge, but for downtown Chicago, very nice. Beautiful bathrooms with high end care products. Having 2 restaurants on sight was very appealing also. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. Half a block from Michigan Ave and half a block from Rush Street. A great location!! We will definitely stay again! « less

I just wanted to take the time to express just how impressed I was with your hotel. My husband and I went to Chicago as a getaway on May 2, 2013 and had a great time. The Whitehall is a great hotel. The location and staff are both just wonderful. I love that you provide all you can drink free coffee in the mornings and cooling water in the afternoon. That is a great touch and I really appreciated it. The staff is wonderful. Nikki at the front desk is a gem, either promote her or give her a raise! She and Jim from engineering went above and beyond to find me a vacuum with a hose so that I may use my space saver bags to pack my suitcase. That was truly amazing! Cesar, Danny and Alex are friendly, informative and very helpful. This hotel is just awesome and gives you a personal feel. It is 1/2 block from the Miracle Mile, a short walk to Rush Street and next door to the Hancock building. I would highly recommend this to everyone. True, it is not a new hotel but it makes up for it in its charm and hospitality and its redecorating. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Thanks for a wonderful stay and keep up the great work. « less

The hotel is not new, but it sure looks that way: all the furniture and bathrooms are gleaming. Half a block from the Miracle Mile and a short walk to the Loyola Water Tower campus (and the Water Tower). Our room was luxurious, though not overly large (which is not a drawback -- it's comfortable enough and certainly a fine place to sleep). Our room had a view of Lake Michigan in the background. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make it a great stay. They also have some great deals if you're willing to buy a nonrefundable room in advance; check out their web page. « less

I took my husband to Chicago for his birthday thinking we'd spend a great weekend on the Magnificent Mile in a nice 4 star hotel with some old character. We were shockingly disappointed upon arrival. The hotel was so bad that we called Expedia 5 minutes after making it to our room to tell them to get us out of their immediately.
I'm so confused on the great photos seen on the website because photos I took look nothing like them. The hotel is old and unkept. stains on the tables, scratches and scuffs around the doors, on the doors and all things wood. The T.V. looked like some old T.V. from the early 90's with the big back on it. The bathroom looked half way finished, almost like they wanted to renovate it but didn't really didn't want to put 100% effort in it. The plugs in the room were a fire hazard and we had to plug our phones into an octopus of electric cords. The dining room had duct tape over cuts and tears in the seats. The building was was just tattered and torn.
Expedia arranged for us to leave the next morning first thing, booking us at the Conrad and refunding most of what we paid for the room and got us free breakfast vouchers.
Location was the best thing this hotel had going for it. The location couldn't be beat and it was the best. « less

Since your visit in October, we have undergone a $15 million dollar renovation of all of our guest rooms and public areas, including new 42” flat-screen TVs, extensive repainting and recarpeting, and new furniture. I was only in Chicago for one night, and this was my first stay at the Whitehall. While the room was newly redecorated and very comfortable, it was the staff that made the difference. I was feeling a little ill after a turbulent flight and Toni at the front desk could not have been more solicitous. Although I didn't try the restaurants, that night a friend and I had a drink in the bar--very old school, panelled and comfortable. The next day I just missed the complimentary coffee service--Ramon immediately went to get me a cup of coffee. I felt very well cared for, and will certainly stay there again. « less
