First, would be the hotel itself. Actually constructed at the highest “per guest room” expense of the 1980’s luxury hotels in New Orleans, The Westin Canal Place (4 Diamonds and recipient of the prestigious Condé Nast Gold List Award) has recently undergone a $15+ million renovation and offers the city’s most breathtaking views and stunning luxury hotel facilities yet with a uniquely friendly, relaxed atmosphere. You will be dazzled by our variety of unique food and beverage venues including the city’s only outdoor terrace perched 11 stories over the river. Rest assured that for your dreaming pleasures our sleeping accommodations are among the finest. Combined the rooms and the service of the hotel can provide perfection in the “basics”.
Secondly, tucked into a quiet corner of the French Quarter, the Mississippi Riverfront, the city’s most fashionable shopping, the exciting Warehouse arts and entertainment district and, of course, the frenzy of the historic Vieux Carre are all within footsteps of The Westin New Orleans Canal Place. Within a four-block radius, you can drink café au lait and eat beignets at Café DuMonde, visit Bourbon Street, eat at Emeril’s, or ride the streetcar along the river. Equally important, you only have to go to the first floor to enjoy the best shopping New Orleans has to offer (Saks 5th Avenue, Kenneth Cole, Brooks Brothers, etc.) and the second floor for the luxurious Paris Parker / Aveda Spa.

This place has a 4 star rating from AAA maybe when it first opened. The view from the lobby is awesome overlooking the Mississippi river, but from there it goes down hill. One elevator not working the 4 days we were there. The carpet throughout the hotel needs to be replaced, the furniture in the lobby needs to go to the dump. The beds are nice and comfortable. That is about it. Maybe the other reviewers were on the river side of the hotel as we were not, maybe those rooms are better. « less

I stayed at the Westin for my first stay in New Orleans I opted to upgrade to a suite. The location is the best right on the river and a few blocks from all the great restaurants, bars, casino, shopping And bourbon street. Service was really good, staff was willing to go above and beyond. I had a dress that needed hemming quickly and they found a way to get it down. The hotel itself is in dire need of upgrades. We had a suite and the views are amazing. Watching the sun rise over the river. Priceless. The hotel room decor is run down, the bathroom fixtures were falling apart. The rug in my room was all tore up and the toilet was pulling away from the cracked floor. « less
