About Our Inn
Middlebury, Vermont Full-Service Hotel
Historic Charm
The Middlebury Inn has been in continuous operation as a hotel for over 180 years. The Inn began as the Vermont Hotel, a brick “public house” opened by Nathan Wood in 1827. The inn changed hands a few times over the years and today is a premier destination in the heart of the lovely vibrant town of Middlebury Vermont. The adjacent Porter Mansion, also part of The Middlebury Inn, is a stately brick home built in 1825 for local merchant Jonathan Wainwright, and named for the William Porter family that eventually occupied it. With its lovely curving staircase, fine leaded glass entrance, exquisite marble fireplaces, and intricate moldings, this charming destination offers 9 Victorian-style guest rooms. A lovely landscaped courtyard and two Annex buildings with additional beautifully appointed rooms with outdoor access complete the property.
Modern Comfort
With refurbished guest rooms, expanded meeting facilities, and our new Waterfalls Day Spa, the Middlebury Inn has entered a new golden era. As one of the loveliest historic inns of Vermont, the Middlebury Inn is respectful of the past while offering the comforts and conveniences of the modern world. Our Middlebury, Vermont inn is like a boutique hotel with its delicious dining, creative event space, attentive guest service and timeless charm.
Wake up to the luxury of silver tray coffee service delivered to your room. Return for afternoon tea and treats while relaxing in classic rockers on the canopied front porch. Top off a great day with an equally great meal in Morgan’s Tavern, our comfortable and casual restaurant.
Other features of The Middlebury Inn include 24-hour Front Desk service and the convenience of personalized wake-up calls. For an invigorating workout during your stay, The Middlebury Inn offers all hotel guests complimentary passes to the Vermont Sun Fitness Center, with its state of the art fitness equipment and Olympic-size indoor pool.

Unexpected daughter's team win found us needing a reservation. Used Tripadvisor to locate and found this old and historic inn. We found the building well maintained, and the help were outstanding. The inn clean and atmosphere pleasant. We stayed in the main building and the team in more modern grounds hotel buildings. The room was a little pricey, but I / we knew this before booking. We stayed for the charm and experience and it was very nice.
We ate dinner at the Inn's tavern. Both our meals were well cooked.
This Inn will make a lasting impression and good memory. « less

There's no doubt the Middlebury Inn is an iconic building but it could use a major restoration to bring it up to luxury standards. That is, assuming there's a market for such a hotel in Middlebury, VT. The dining room and included breakfast is a bit rough and while the service staff are good people, there's no service culture in evidence. Some basic training would go a long way. The room rates are reasonable and reflect this being a near (but not) luxury hotel. « less

Middlebury is a very lovely town in Vermont. We stayed at the Middlebury Inn because we have two dogs and they allow dogs for an extra $25 pet fee. It's well worth it. It's centrally located, and within walking distance to everything in town. Breakfast is not included in the price, which we thought was a shame, so we had breakfast elsewhere. « less

We stayed for two night at the Inn, and found it very attractive and welcoming. It is in-town, and the room we stayed in was really lovely (Room 111) - spacious, large king bed, and all the amenities. Hairdryer, toiletries, good wifi and TV, great shower, etc. Early morning coffee and tea available in the lobby before breakfast opened, and a very nice "tea" service in the lobby all afternoon (coffee, tea, lemonade, great chocolate chip cookies) and the lobby was an enjoyable place to sit and visit, read, etc. When we were there it was a little too cool to take advantage of all the chairs out on the screened front porch, which looks down the hill to the town, but it was so pretty I went out and sat there for a while anyhow. Would be lovely in warmer weather.
Breakfasts were very good, one morning a good buffet, the other morning ordering from the menu. We had lunch in the Morgan Tavern one day and it was quite good, too.
Our room was very quiet, very comfy bed, and though I often don't sleep well in hotels, I slept just fine here. I wasn't aware of any noise or church bells, etc. so it must vary room to room. I had called to make sure we got a room in the main Inn rather than the annex, and I think that was a good thing to do. Staff all friendly and helpful, and were happy to help my husband with the elevator when needed. « less

'A breath of fresh air". That's how I feel about some of our Trip Advisor reviews and for this I thank you. You certainly captured what I like to think are our finest attributes. And you took advantage of much that we had to offer - I only wish you could have enjoyed breakfast out on our veranda as our guests lately have. It's a beautiful time of year to be in Vermont and we hope to see you both again.
