RICHMOND MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN

As part of the renaissance of Richmond’s core commercial corridor, the Richmond Marriott has undergone a multimillion-dollar overhaul, complete with a comprehensive refurbishing of the hotel’s 400-plus guestrooms, the transformation of its lobby into a business-friendly Great Room, and the makeover of its restaurant into the upscale T-Miller’s Sports Bar and Grill with outdoor seating that spills out onto Broad Street. The total renovation project was completed on August 29, 2009 and now features re-designed guestrooms, suites, concierge lounge, sports bar, lobby lounge, Starbucks, and Great Room inspired lobby. The renovation completed in concert with the planned grand opening of Richmond CenterStage. Richmond-based architecture, engineering, and interior design firm Baskerville is oversaw the renovation. The extensive room renovations include a floor-to-ceiling overhaul, with new carpeting, wall furnishings, fixtures, furniture and flat-screen televisions. Each room is also outfitted with high-speed Internet capabilities as well as Marriott’s trademarked “jack pack,” a console into which guests can plug their laptops, enabling them to use their computers through the room’s television. Other devices, such as iPods and DVD players, also can be plugged into the “jack pack.” The Richmond Marriott has the most meeting and event space of any hotel in Richmond, with upwards of 26,000 sq. ft. of space spread across 2 very flexible ballrooms and several meeting rooms that are perfect for small conferences or breakout space. The 15,000 sq ft Grand Ballroom is capable of holding over a 1,000 guest banquet, yet has the capability to break down into 10 smaller rooms, depending on the needs of the event The Capital Ballroom has the same functionality, spread across 8,000 sq. ft. of space. Marriott hotels are pioneering the concept of the Great Room, a re-imagining of the hotel lobby that combines an upscale aesthetic with increased functionality for the business traveler, including alcoves and seating areas where guests can hold small meetings over drinks or coffee. The new Great Room also features a new front desk, the Liberty Bar, and a brand new, fully-licensed Starbucks. “The new Great Room concept is all about giving guests a variety of options, as opposed to sitting alone in their room,”. “Its design stems from the concept of ‘intensity zones,’ the idea that this room should serve as more than a welcoming lobby, but provide some functional amenities that our guests can take advantage of to make their visit more productive or more relaxing, as the case may be.” The Richmond Marriott’s new three-meal-a-day restaurant, T-Miller’s, is destined to become a popular gathering place for both out-of-town visitors and local Richmonders. It is a stylish and contemporary sports bar that puts patrons amid a sophisticated and high-tech sports-themed environment. 29 high-definition televisions are found throughout, including a 126” media wall made up of 9 high-def plasmas. The restaurant has been redesigned so that seating spills out onto the Broad Street sidewalk, with room for 40 people outside.
