SInce we're Marriott Rewards members, we try to stay in their brands whenever we travel. The Courtyard Marriott Hampton did not disappoint. We stayed April 4-6, 2013, during Hampton University's High School Day. Me, DH, and DS shared a room and it exactly what we were looking for in accommodations. It was in close proximity to Hampton University. When we checked in, the hotel staff was friendly and asked if we had everything we needed. The hotel was quiet and the room was big enough for 3 adults. The beds were very comfortable but firm. This Courtyard has an on-site dining venue - The Bistro. We didn't buy any full meals but the selection appeared very appetizing. They also had free wi-fi in the room with a strong signal. Check-out was a breeze ---we received our bill the night before and didn't need to go to check-out; however, I did because that's just what I do to make sure they are no extra charges. « less

Downsides are inconsistent air temp controls, only fairly comfortable beds that were disappointing and an old feeling,. All in all, I was expecting more and perhaps that is the disappointment....

As usual, the staff at this hotel (this is the most important part) were wonderful, helpful, nice and accommodating.
Unfortunately, I may have to try a different place if I am back in the area. « less

The staff here was very friendly, however the rooms felt musty and somewhat dirty. The carpets were stained and there was a bad smell in the room. I thought Marriott's were nicer than this. Would not stay here again. The hotel does offer free WiFi, which was nice. « less

Consistency is the thing that always works in Marriott's favor when I consider choosing a hotel. This property in Hampton, VA is a perfect example of this. This is a hotel that has been there for a number of years. However, Marriott has seen to it that the exterior is very well maintained, the lobby is fresh and modern, and the rooms are obviously newly re-painted, re-carpeted, and re-furnished. My room readily accommodated my needs as a business traveler (good lighting, plenty of desk space, and a comfortable desk chair); the modified menu of the "restaurant" provided some options if I wanted to eat-in; there are plenty of options for restaurants nearby; the hotel staff are professional and friendly; and the location of the hotel is convenient to the Interstate. This hotel is reasonably priced for the local market, and it offers a product and a level of service that meets what I consider to be the high standards of the Marriott organization. « less
