I was able to get a great room rate for my wife and me to go to San Diego for a couple of nights, Saturday and Sunday. I had asked for a higher quieter room with the possibility of an early check in. We arrived in San Diego after our drive from Westlake Village pretty early so we parked and strolled around the farmers market in Little Italy which was fun. Then we did our usual and walked down to the bay front and then walked up to the gas lamp district, by now it was around noon so we thought why not pop in and just ask if there was a chance of checking in early and sure enough the helpful staff was able to accommodate us, room being on the 9th floor away from the elevators and ice machines as requested, so we were pretty happy with that and so we walked back to Little Italy picked up the car and drove back to the hotel. We then were able to unload and relax for a while.
The room was very comfortable, nice big king bed, not sure why they put one robe out on the bed with one free bottle of water, perhaps they thought only one person was going to be staying in the room, would have been nice to see two, one each. It did have a small refrigerator which was nice to put our drinks etc. in. It looks like the room had been though a recent make over which was very nice. The bathroom was very nice and clean, towels nice and bright, there was also an in room safe which was a nice surprise and very handy. One other nice feature they offer is the loan of work out gear for the gym, I believe it is $5 for the stay and you get a whole kit which is good if you forget your stuff and want to work out in their gym.
Our stay at the hotel was very comfortable, it is in a great central location, although Horton plaza is going through a big refurbishment project at the moment and there is a lot of building going on, thankfully nothing was happening though Saturday or Sunday but come Monday morning as our room over looked the development it started to get busy with construction noise just after 7am but we were already up by then. Obviously not the hotels fault but just be aware of this if your room faces that direction. Overall our stay was very nice and for the right price I would return.
My only grip, is like most people the cost of $36 per day for parking and the in room internet connection fee of $10.50 or so which I didn’t use. I guess this is nothing new for hotel charges as most seem to charge these types of fees but it would be nice to see a hotel start a new trend and not charge them as it would certainly make for a more positive note. « less

It sounds like you not only had a great time but were able to take full advantage of the hotel’s amenities and location. It was also nice to read that you enjoyed the comfort and new look of our guestrooms.
We know many guests like to remain active while away from home but don’t necessarily want to pack the extra items required for a good workout. By partnering with New Balance we feel we’ve solved the problem! As you discovered, guests participating in the program are provided with a complete set of workout gear to use throughout their stay. This program has become very popular and I’m glad you found it beneficial.
Thank you for taking the time to provide TripAdvisor with a detailed review and we look forward to welcoming you and your wife back on your next getaway to San Diego.

I was at first inclined to somewhat skeptical, because the price was a little high for my liking. However, they have that "Green Choice" thing that has been mentioned, that gives a $5 savings for skipping housekeeping. We brought our own coffee and I don't need fresh towels and sheets every day, so we only took the housekeeping one day out of five.
We didn't use any of the hotel's bars or restaurants.
The location couldn't be better for using mass transit. We were only a block or two from bus or trolley lines to just about anywhere. And, as you can tell by the name, it's right next to the Gaslamp Quarter; there are so many restaurants we didn't use the hotel's.
We left some sights unseen so we'll be back, and probably stay here. « less

I’d have to agree, I don’t think anyplace is better situated than The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter! So happy to read that you enjoyed your stay and were able to take advantage of our Make a Green Choice program. In addition to rewarding guests who choose to take part in the program, it also has a huge impact on our commitment to sustainability and we thank you for participating. By declining housekeeping services for even just one day, we are able to conserve almost 40 gallons of water.
Hopefully on your return visit you will have an opportunity to experience Pinzimini where we offer Italian inspired cuisine in a relaxed setting. And after dinner, our bar and lounge features a large selection of wines from Italy and California along with custom cocktails. Definitely worth a try!

I have just returned from a 3-night stay at this hotel. There were aspects to admire and several issues that would put a return visit in great doubt. They offer an innovative, and, for me, exciting program called "Green Choice" whereby a guest can decline daily housekeeping. They reward the guest with a $5 food voucher (of course a 75 cent candy bar costs $2) or 500 Starwood points. I would make the choice with no reward, but the reward offer did come from them. I am a tidy and recycling guest in a single room who values privacy and just don't need daily room cleaning. Unfortunately it worked one night and was disregarded the second night despite a phone call to the desk to make sure that Housekeeping got the message. The apology when I called about the problem was just words...not even an offer to give the points.. and no attempt at an explanation. Second....join the 21st century: they charge a daily fee of $10 for WiFi and it's not even free in the lobby. My traveling companion chose not to stay at the Westin because the $36 a day parking fee just seems too high. My one meal was a disappointment. The hollandaise sauce was vinegary, not delicately lemon. However, the rooms are huge and clean and the beds are comfy. « less

Thank you for taking the time to recognize one of Westin's key "green" initiatives, Make a Green Choice. Whether you participate in the program for one night or more, depending on your length of stay, your support the significant savings to water, electricity, natural gas and chemicals. It is unfortunate the process was not flawless and I have shared your feedback with my team, to assist in the fine tuning of our processes, to ensure we deliver on the experience consistently. Thank you for your support with the program.
We do offer complimentary internet in our lobby for all our registered guests. We also have 2 workstations in the lobby that offer complimentary 15 minute use, along with complimentary boarding pass printouts.
We hope you will give our hotel another try, should your travels bring you to San Diego. We appreciate your business and value your support of our green initiative.
Kind Regards, Keri Robinson, General Manager

Disclosure- I am an habitual fan of Westin properties for the most part.
The good- great location, amazing rate- PP $150 per night, great service throughout property, staff very friendly- 5/12 6th wedding anniversary- had to spend it apart, hotel sent wine (comp) and gifts from spouse! Room, clean, new and very comfortable.
The bad- The only thing I can think of is the cost of valet parking at $38 per night- a bit over the top frankly.
In summary- Will def be back, it was a wonderful experience, exec management and entire staff should be complimented on the service and overall experience. Thank you for making a mundane business trip extra ordinary. Very much appreciated. « less

Loved hearing that you are a habitual fan of Westin properties! And I was very happy to read that our staff had a hand in the covert operation to surprise you with gifts from your spouse. I’d like to wish you a belated happy anniversary and hopefully on your next anniversary you will both be able to spend it with us!

We had just moved from the Del Coronado Hotel to spend our last few days in SD in the gas lamp quarter. This was such a great decision.
We loved the area, the hotel itself was really very nice and way more affordable than the Del, great location that was walking distance to more restaurants than I could eat at in two months, and they accommodated our request for an upgrade based on my wife's platinum status as a frequent visitor.
But more than all of that, the staff were friendly, professional, helpful, accommodating, and just good to deal with. Great job everybody, how you deliver makes me want to stay at your hotel the next time I go to San Diego. « less
