We had a nice evening back in March 2013 at this hotel. A room with 2 beds, a lovely ocean view (with a pack of stray dogs wandering around) and a slightly friendly iguana. We enjoyed the grounds and pools. BUT....
We'd gotten a very good rate for 1 nights stay from the girl at the front desk when we arrived at the hotel without a prior reservation. This included parking and breakfast buffet the next morning. After we ate our breakfast, we went to the pool for a last swim. Upon returning to our room I noticed it had been made up by the housekeeping staff and our bags put to the side of the room. I never thought much of this. We left the hotel shortly thereafter, unfortunately, we did not officially check out of the hotel, just left the room and the keys inside.
When we got our M/C bill later that month we realized we'd been charged for 2 nights. We contacted the hotel directly and spoke with a very helpful person (Jose Torres) to whom I emailed a copy of the bill from the hotel we stayed at the next night (hundreds of miles away) in another town, showing we clearly had NOT stayed at this hotel the 2nd night. Long story short, they won't give us back the 2nd night and have stopped having correspondence with us completely.
I would NEVER recommend this hotel due to this fact alone. And it's fair to say, I won't be staying at any other Hilton establishments again. We travel all over the world and would rather stay in a flea bitten hostel before going back to a Hilton. « less

Very nice hotel and all the services and staff were great. Only bad thing was having to pay for parking! Why do you have to pay when staying at hotel? Just another fee that makes one unhappy. This location has plenty of unuse parking area so I wonder the need for a parking fee. Tks. « less

Went to the Ponce Hilton for a business dinner at their "La Cava" restaurant. The hosting staff was very pleasant. The food was excellent but service was very slow and erratic. Good wine list. But, the problem started when we tried to leave the resort.... Upon entering the property we took a parking ticket from a machine at the entrance...there were no signs as to what to do with it (in terms of validation). We approached the exit gate and there is not an attendant managing the exit...just a machine, where you're supposed to insert your validated ticket. Since we didn't know about any validation procedures, we had to honk the horn for the entrance attendant to come to us. This person told us (then) that we had to go back to the restaurant to validate the parking ticket...I explained that we were the last ones to leave the restaurant and that it was already closed...I even showed him copy of my $300 dollar bill so as for him to understand that we were really patrons and not trying to pull a fast one on him. He spoke to his manager on the phone and came back to us telling us that we had to go back to the lobby to get the ticket validated (there is no other way we could leave the property). We had to drive back the 1 mile back to the lobby and his boss was not at his stand..so I went and asked for the night manager (11:30 PM) and explained the situation to him...he then proceeded to do us the "favor" of validating the ticket so that we could go on our "merry way" back to San Juan to our hotel there (another 1 1/2 hours. The idiocy of making us drive back to the hotel lobby for a parking ticket validation was preposterous !! Especially when there were no instructions as to validation, and the restaurant staff did not offer or volunteer that information either. As for me, they just lost a customer....never again will they see me there... « less

After reading the previous reviews I almost feel like this is a different place entirely. It's not however. I asked Hilton to leave this hotel and they set me up at the Embassy Suites in San Juan which is where I usually stay at for business. I suggest that hotel or the other Embassy on the beach. Avoid this Hilton if you enjoy resorts. This hotel charged me for the entire visit even though I left 3 nights before the stay was over because I was so thoroughly disgusted with the staff.
Hilton was "kind" enough to send me a free night voucher for my troubles.. Whatever. I have been to 40+ countries and many many resorts so this review comes with extensive resort and hotel living experience. I rarely if EVER complain about anything and I tend to treat hotel staff like friends. I am about as easy going as they come so take that into consideration on this review. After looking over my AmEx statement and seeing the $2000 in charges from this hotel you can guarantee I'm not just going to sit around and be Mr. Easygoing this time.
The property is lovely, well maintained, pool is big and clean, there are plenty of activities to keep folks occupied for awhile. That is if the staff cared that you were attending their resort at all. If you were to come here and plan everything yourself including your own drinks, a rental car where you're never at the property, etc.. It might work out for you. That's usually not why people go to resorts though.
I have never been to a resort, especially in this part of the world, where some staff are openly rude. Others seemed to meander around the hotel in a general funk. The bartending is literally the most amusing or the most frustrating action I've ever seen. It depends on how many times you've been up there. Other employees will avoid eye contact with you in order to avoid doing any activity. I received 2 smiles while I was there (by the same girl). Everyone else avoided eye contact or simply ignored that me and my family were there at all.
Bartending moment: 3 people in line, bartender avoids eye contact with everyone except a single person (order in which you entered line is irrelevant). First person wants a Strawberry Daq, guy spends 5 minutes making it. Next person wants the same thing, guy avoids eye contact with everyone else, spends 5 minutes making it. At this point a waitress walks up and orders 2 of the SAME THING and the guy, still avoiding eye contact with me, spends 5 minutes making it. During this time a girl who was working the cash register comes around the corner, sees me, and very quickly hides. 20 minutes later the bartender grunts at me and guess what I want? Strawberry Daq! You may repeat this over and over again because each of their bartenders operate with similar efficiency. There is only one bar at this resort. My solution was to drive to the store, buy my own mix and stuff, make my own drinks in my room.
Meat.. Every night is meat night at the Ponce Hilton. The dinner options at night include a "BBQ" which is a guy standing behind a grill burning various meat cuts. Avoid eating here at night and instead try to find the single helpful Valet guy so he can show you on a map where to eat. There is no concierge to be seen, the front desk staff will not help you leave the property, you're on your own unless that one Valet guy is there.
Basically in the past 5 years this is the worst experience I've had with any hotel company. It's really a shame because there is SO much potential if the resort had a staff that cared at all about it's guests. A management team that created an environment where employees enjoy their work.. Bartenders that knew how to bartend. Etc. « less
