This is a wonderful base from which to explore Portland, and especially the Pearl District. We left our car at home and took Amtrak to Union Station, which is a short (~3/4 mile) walk from the Mark Spencer. The staff could not possibly be friendlier or more helpful; it was a delight just to chat with them (and the hotel manager as well). Our room contained a king bedroom, bath, full kitchen and a room that acted a a combo closet and storage room. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean and generally quiet (late-night or early-morning loud talkers outside can be a disturbance if you have the window open). The shower had plenty of hot water at good pressure; however complaints about no shelf space in the bathroom are accurate; you may want to bring a hanging bath kit
. A very extensive free continental breakfast is provided each morning. Those with time to spend at the hotel in the afternoon can also enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and cookies and a reception at 5pm including free wine and snacks!
I love Portland and will be back with friends soon. Without question we'll stay at the Mark Spencer! « less

Second time here and still love it. Right in the middle of everything, great whole foods you can walk to, powell books, etc... A wonderful lattee machine and love the afternoon cookie break. Remodeled and a great job they have done. Don't forget to check out the room for business groups to meet and the cute exercise room. We had a little kitchen so cute. « less

Love staying at the Mark Spencer. It right in the heart of Portland's Pearl District. Close to many interesting shops; Kitchen shop, knitting, and best of all Powell's Book Store. The Mark Spencer has newly renovated rooms of all sizes. Tea and cookies in the afternoon and wine early eve. Close to good restaurants. There's always something fun to do in Portand, and the street car is right out the door. Another perk is the security garage parking and free news paper outside your door in the AM. Feels very much like a European hotel...charming! « less
