I stayed at this hotel for one night on business recently.
Here's what's good about the hotel: Great views of the East River. Easy access to the UN if you have reason to be there.
Here's what's less good about the hotel:
I would never have chosen it under normal circumstances, as the location is very inconvenient to the subway and there aren't many good restaurants or other attractions (other than the UN) in that neighborhood. But it was fairly last minute travel and this was all my assistant could find, so I took it.
This was a mediocre experience from start to finish. I arrived to check in around 4pm and there were about 5 people in line to check in and only one person working the registration desk. He was polite but a bit slow. Finally they sent another person out to help.
I got up to my room which can only be described as basic--about the level I would expect in a Hampton Inn. That was fine--the bed was comfortable and I was there so briefly that about all I did was sleep there. The bathroom, however, was pretty gross. The tub had been cheaply redone, with chips in the over-finish and poorly installed tiles. The tub drain was also so slow that it took about 30 minutes to drain after my shower. If housekeeping had been cleaning the tub properly (and I doubt they had), they couldn't have helped but notice it and should have reported it to maintenance. Since I was only there 1 night I didn't bother to report it until checkout.
But the worst part of the bathroom was that the floor clearly hadn't been cleaned for quite some time. There was a LOT of hair on the floor. And I'll let you imagine what kind of hair. I reported this, too, at check out, and the person at the desk was barely apologetic.
I asked the concierge one question on my way out to an event--where the nearest place to get a manicure was--and she was brusque verging on rude, and of limited help.
Checkout was the same situation as check-in: one person working the desk, numerous people in line. Finally they sent someone else out to help.
All in all I would not describe this hotel as overly attentive to the guest experience. And there is nothing else special about it that overcomes the staff. I wouldn't stay here again. « less

This hotel has been recently renovated and the results are great. The rooms have great views and the location is terrific, but the staff - especially the doormen and bell staff - are wonderful. We can't say enough about how kind and welcoming they are. We arrived after a very long and stressful trip and they welcomed us with open arms.
We highly recommend this hotel and will continue to stay there. « less

We booked this hotel through a package deal for our anniversary. My first time being in NY I didn't know what to expect. We arrived after midnight and when we checked in we requested a room with a good view. We were in the un-renovated East tower and given a handicapped room on the 32nd floor. The view was INCREDIBLE!! The main reason we booked this hotel was because it had a pool, which we never used we were so busy doing other things.
There was not a bar/restaurant in the hotel due to the renovations (which we didn't seem to notice were happening). The doorman suggested we eat at Olympia Cafe since they were open 24 hours, probably the worst meal we had the entire stay. We were amazed at how close the hotel was to shopping on 5th Ave and Times Square and highway accessibility.
Only hangup was that there wasn't a bathtub due to handicapped room, so the water from the shower got everywhere, but the room was so much more spacious and the view was so perfect we dealt with it. Overall we would probably stay here again due to the location and view. « less

Don't let the professional photo's or the lobby fool you, the bathroom in this hotel room may have been the dirtiest I have ever been in. I spend about 75 nights in hotel around the country and been to NYC at least 10 times, this is the worst. The walls, bathtub, sink, and the floors were disgusting. Never return, do not select! « less

I stayed two nights on a business trip not knowing how far and out if the way the hotel was. Upon entering the room I immediately began to notice several dark, coarse hairs on the exterior of the bedding. Assuming they were from whomever made the bed I picked them off using a tissue. Later that evening when returning from several long meetings all I wanted to do was sleep - boy, was I in for a surprise! When I pulled up the sheets not only did I find 13 (yes, I counted) dark hairs, but also a good size stain in the center of the sheet! Clearly the linen had never been changed from the previous guests. DISGUSTING! I called down and they did send up a gentleman to change the bedding right away however there was some confusion and they ended up changing my room. Neither room had a tv with working channels aside from 3 basic channels. When I checked out the girl told me there were "cable issues" in the entire building. My luck. About 18 hours into my stay, I was prompted online to pay again for internet, after already buying a 48 hour package. Two days of sales calls in the downpouring rain... An umbrella in my guest room it at the front door would have been an inexpensive yet thoughtful gesture (and a standard nowadays)... Nope. They were "all out". No compensations...which is ok. I lost my appetite after this stay and couldn't be paid to stay there again. Awful all around. « less
