This the second hotel I have used for a one night stay in Independence. This hotel seems to be less expensive to book vs the Courtyard by Marriott and I liked the room, beds and location better. It also has a nicer lobby and warm cookies. Fitness center as expected is a hot box and I had to bring it to the front desk's attention that a treadmill needed to be serviced, but it is typical treadmill maintenance stuff and nothing that would raise concern for me regarding the hotel's upkeep. Kids liked the pool and staff was courteous. « less

We were treated very well by the GM upon check-in, and upgraded to the HHonors floor (5) without having to ask. This was much appreciated after a long drive. Comfortable and quiet room with a King-Size bed and newer furniture/fittings (including a sofa you can stretch out on), fridge and microwave, great tv (stereo sound) and the climate control was easy to figure out. This is a very well-run hotel, and it shows in the little things that you don't have to ask for, ie. towels were plentiful, lots of extra coffee/tea for the in-room coffee maker, free cookies at the front desk. Our compliments to the staff and management of the DoubleTree Independence for a great stay! « less
